Raider 🇧🇦 claimed that LP gains felt off during the final 2 weeks of his Korean bootcamp, and that it cost him a real push at the top of the ladder.
Given his pedigree, we investigated.
He wasn't imagining it:
Between 1 July and 6 July, his avg. LP per win tanked 26% vs June (+20 → under +15), while losses deepened to -26 (from -21).
So the requirement to simply not lose ground jumped from 51% to 64% overnight.
For context on how brutal that is: a 64% winrate in KR top 10 lobbies, where every game contains pros and Challenger one-tricks, is roughly what the very best players on earth sustain during hot streaks.
Grizzly, the current KR Rank 1, is running 55% across his whole season. Raider needed to outperform the Rank 1 player's season-long winrate by nine points just to tread water.
After the 6th, LP gains / losses snapped back to normal.
What's unusual about this is Raider hit the same ~2,630 LP on June 20 with completely normal gains.
Same player, same LP, two weeks apart.
Only the July peak was impacted.
And it wasn't just him. The entire KR top 10 saw their LP economics dip in that exact window, though at a fraction of the severity.
Something changed on July 1.
A patch, an MMR recalibration, a system test?
We can't say which. But the numbers don't lie, and neither did Raider.

There's too many action states for a true chess engine style position evaluator.
Let's just take a hypothetical dragon fight, blue team has 3 dragons, 4th spawning but they're getting outscaled by red.
There's a ward behind blue that they didn't clear for a flank angle.
How should this be evaluated? The naive way would be to just give a win rate based on similar team comps for a team up 3 dragons but that ignores so much in game context.
If the flank ward is useful then you have to go back another minute and see if blue could have prevented it, etc etc to find the first blunder.
Chess engines aren't probability states they're objective about positions whereas in league because of how it's played everything is closer to a markov chain.
English

This model thing is cool and the greatest takeaway from it (even though in this video its not accurate) is that if everyone perceived things more like a chess evaluation bar analytical discussions would be easier and more obvious, but ppl dont see the game that way.

Rewatch Game 5 between HLE and BLG with our new format
English

@ddianxia_ Hmm I don't think anyone serious would say that Gumayusi isn't a top 3 adc in the world at most given points.
English

everyone's better than gumayusi until it's time TO BE better than gumayusi ❗
LoL Esports@lolesports
New team, same Gumayusi.
English

@ItsBrokenScreen @arshgoyal13 They aren't dumb, they just don't care and don't want to be talked to about morals over watching a game.
Whether that's a tenable position to take is up to you but it's probably the average.
English

@arshgoyal13 I struggle to understand how communities grow like this. Like... there can't be that many people that are that dumb (for lack of a better word), right?
English

@saruman_desage @cloudsidky This I agree with - They are better at this than Gen G. My first post was just a situation that COULD happen.
English

@RollingGolem @cloudsidky Knight has clearly not “lost his ability to imagine.”
They won 3 Bo5’s against the best teams at the tournament and lost a close game 5 becauw their prep was bad all series. BLG are clearly capable of winning it all without a mental block.
This isn’t GenG.
English

Knight keeping it real: "Honestly, failure itself isn’t anything too special for me. I’ve probably experienced losses like this many times in international tournaments, so I don’t think I gained some completely new experience from it. I just feel that it’s a shame that we lost.
Going into the next matches, we’ll definitely have more motivation to keep pushing forward. After all, once you’ve already lost, you don’t want to lose again."
One of the most decorated players in LPL history is saying he's used to failure.
English

@saruman_desage @cloudsidky So.... which one of these is an actual competitor? JDG who they already beat? BNK FEARX who fluked into a win? No, it's only Gen G(Chovy who also can't imagine himself winning internationally anymore) and maybe G2 who BLG are just better than.

English

@RollingGolem @cloudsidky First stand is a double elimination tournament with 4 Eastern teams and G2.
I get you can’t think for yourself, but the reason we were all saying the last FS was Mickey Mouse was that they just took the old shitty MSI format and TES was an attendee.
English

@perrymetzger Tbh AI 2040 is dumb as hell but at least their proposed worlds are slightly more detailed than this post or detractors.
Tell me what the "nightmarish horror" world actually looks like in your mind/prediction. Otherwise it's just vague fearposting.
English

For those of you using GPT 5.6 Sol today to get work done: remember, if it were up to people like Dario, GPT 2 could not have been released, and if it were up to the AI 2040 crowd, we'd now have a totalitarian world government run by EAs to "protect us".
You have these wonderful tools, and indeed, you have individual freedom, only because such people have failed so far. But they have not given up, and the fight continues; constant vigilance is the price of a society not run by those people "for our own good". They are a threat not only because they would shut down AI research but because in order to do it they would happily turn the world into a nightmarish horror. "For our own good", of course.
English

First Stand is Mickey mouse and I have no doubts in his ability to win domesticly.
An example is NA after TSM couldn't escape groups in 16/17. I think the region as a whole lost its ability to imagine. To imagine a world where an NA team can win an international.
The superteam with all of ohr best players couldn't win so how can we ever win? This has only started to go away in the past 2ish years imo.
If you lose at worlds every year the dangerous part is your thinking going from: "I'll win it this year" --> "I hope I can win"
English

@RollingGolem @cloudsidky He literally won the last international tournament and the previous 3 LPL splits

15 years is too quick for people to change. If power is handed over then I can almost guarantee it won't be some citizen referendum or diplomatic vote.
It would be either:
1. A forceful takeover
2. People in power handing all decisions to the AI but hiding it from the public (Issue is the people in power almost always want to stay in power)
English

if u read ai 2040 and go "what the fuck do u mean handing over power to artificial intelligence in 15 years?? that's a nightmare too fuck that" then despite short term goal alignment we in fact fundamentally don't agree. causing the singularity is goal priority #2 as soon as possible after making sure it's safe.
Theo Jaffee@theojaffee
Key divide in the AI safety world is between people who want the glorious aligned ASI singularity future and people who just don’t want AI at all
English

@vladusatii @AlexanderKalian You can have safety or you can have speed. You cannot do both.
English

@AlexanderKalian There HAS to be a faster way. This SHOULD NOT be the norm! I know it sounds crazy, but it is time to question the system that passes our chemical and biological builds to search for optimizations.
English

"AI will cure cancer within 5 years!"
Ahem - clinical trials?
"AI will reverse ageing within 7 years!"
Cool - clinical trials?!
"AI will be able to design and immediately synthesise a new drug for you, based on your DNA."
Haha sure - clinical trials??!
Guess the tech bros have decided that decade-long clinical trials are no longer important to AI drug discovery or wider pharmacology.
But it seems to come from a place of ignorance about basic pharmacology.
Do they not read up on basic facts, before confidently commenting on other peoples' fields of research?
English

@flowersslop The annoying thing about OpenAI is their employees tweet about Claude MORE than Anthropics own employees.
It's a weird look to be so obsessed.
English

@PolymarketLoL Why would losing MSI affect their chances of winning LPL?
English

@MonsieurYordle Depends on the goal - As a generic tiktok video it's fine
If you want to use it for analysis then you need to show his teammates. Or if that's too cluttered at least who has lane prior.
A LOT of jungle in competitive is how your lanes support you
