Had an awesome trip to the Dominican Republic with my great buddy @PujolsFive. Played some golf, was joined by MVP George Bell, threw out the first pitch at the baseball game, and had the opportunity to meet the @EscogidoBBClub team and their fantastic fans. Best of all, I received an early birthday present from Albert... his 2006 Gold Glove Award and 2007 All-Star Game Jersey! On eBay soon... I’m kidding!! Just wanted to get a sponsor partner plug in there. 😂 I loved the Dominican Republic. Wonderful people and atmosphere. Couldn’t have felt more welcome. We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Ozzie Virgil Sr. On September 23, 1956, Virgil made his debut with the New York Giants and became the first native of the Dominican Republic to play in the Major Leagues. “He means a lot,”  Juan Soto said in 2023. “He was the first Dominican coming to the big leagues and opened the doors for … not only Dominicans, for all Latin players.” Virgil, a Marine Corps veteran, played nine Major League seasons. He then spent more than two decades as a Major League coach, including with the 1984 NL champion San Diego Padres. Our thoughts are with his son, two-time All-Star catcher Ozzie Virgil Jr., and the rest of the Virgil family. Ozzie Virgil Sr. was 92.
