As we begin this new year, the Spirit can help us recognize the gifts and talents God has given us. Let us, like the faithful servants in the Lord’s parable, increase and magnify them. The day will come when we stand before our compassionate Father in Heaven to give an account of our stewardship. He will want to know what we did with the gifts He gave us—in particular, how we used them to bless His children. God knows who we truly are, who we are designed to become, and so His expectations for us are high. But He doesn’t expect us to take some grand, heroic, or superhuman leap to get there. In the world He created, growth happens gradually and patiently—but also consistently and unrelentingly. Remember, it is Jesus Christ who already did the superhuman part when He conquered death and sin. Our part is to follow the Christ. It is our part to turn away from sin, turn toward the Savior, and walk in His way, one step at a time. As we do this, diligently and faithfully, we eventually cast off the shackles of imperfections and faults and slowly become refined, until that perfect day when we will be perfected in Christ. The blessings are within reach. The promises are in place. The door is wide open. It is our choice to enter and begin. The beginning may be small. But that is OK. Where faith is weak, begin with a hope in Christ Jesus and in His power to cleanse and purify.

Each Christmas Eve, my father read to our family from Luke, chapter 2 about the birth of Jesus Christ. He also always read the account of Mary and Joseph bringing the baby Jesus to the temple in Jerusalem. My father read about Simeon who knew that he would not die before he had seen the Savior of the world. Simeon saw Jesus, held Him up, and said, “Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou has prepared before the face of all people.” At that point, my father always bore his testimony in heavily accented English, “I may not be able to hold dat little baby Yesus in my arms, but I know, yust as vell as Simeon knew, dat dat baby vas the Son of God, my Savior and Redeemer. He is real and He lives.” My father then looked at each of us with his piercing blue eyes and said with an emphatic nod, “And you can know it, too.” My father and mother knew who that babe in Bethlehem was and what He would accomplish. This knowledge transformed them. It has transformed me. This Christmas, seek the spiritual gift of knowing of the living reality of the Savior of the world. You can know that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that He atoned for your sins. This knowledge is longer lasting than any gift you will receive this or any other Christmas because it can transform you.

@Latterdaytruth Turkey, because of the talk he gave on forgiveness about a lady who forgave boys for throwing a frozen turkey on her windshield, badly injuring her. I love that story and the way he told it.

What a great man...a veritable Prophet of Jesus Christ. This is what "success" looks like to me: serving others and helping others come unto Christ at 101 years old. Amazing!

The family unit is not only fundamental to society and to the Church, but to our hope for eternal life. We begin to practice in the family, the smaller unit, what will spread to the Church and to the society in which we live in this world, and what then will be what we practice in families bound together forever by covenants and faithfulness.

Preliminary site work has begun for the Lehi Utah Temple, connecting the property to the city's existing utility infrastructure. The work includes installation of water and sewer pipes and electrical conduits. The site will also be cleared and graded. Design work for the temple is still being finalized, and no date has been announced for the groundbreaking ceremony. "We are excited for this first step in the process of building a house of the Lord in Lehi," said Elder Brian K. Taylor, president of the Utah Area. 🔗: bit.ly/3JclmcR This is the sound of over 2,000 people singing in the rugged central highlands of Papua New Guinea… celebrating the creation of a new stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This is now the 4th new stake in the country in the last 14 months. In addition to the new stake, 129 people entered the waters of baptism that same weekend with hundreds more scheduled for baptism. The Church in Papua New Guinea is growing faster than meetinghouses can be built. Many people arrived at the makeshift meetinghouse the night before the stake conference. One family who was being baptized walked 11 miles and slept at the front gate so they wouldn’t miss it. One man whose family was baptized said he has looked for God all his life. He added that he believes “Jesus Christ is here in this Church.” Elder Jeffery M. Nikoia, an Area Seventy who spoke at the conference, said “these wonderful people are coming together with the faith that the Lord will bless their lives and the lives of those around them.” Read more in the link above.

With exponentially compounding AI technologies promising new ideas and new possibilities in coming years, we confront profound questions: • What it means to be human? • Who and what will define perceptual “truth”? • Emotional relationships between humans and AI (including AI companions)? • How we understand divine principles of work, faith and reasoning, even relationship with the Divine? I spoke about these issues today at the Religions for Peace World Council Meeting held in Istanbul, Türkiye. I called for religious actors to action in three AI-centered areas which affect faith, ethics, and human dignity. First, be clear, and help society understand, AI is not and cannot be God. No set of utilitarian AI algorithms should determine or speak for our most treasured human values and spiritual experiences. Second, help chart a future where AI genuinely contributes to the common good, including human thriving and common prosperity, for people everywhere. Third, commit together to ensure AI’s moral compass is not dictated solely by technology or the small group developing the technology. All those committed to faith-based morals, ethics, and values are needed in this conversation. Our most precious truth, comfort, revelation, guidance come when we personally commune with the Divine. Spiritual truth and light come from understanding who God is in creation and the universe. For children of God, platforms and technologies cannot substitute for authentic Divine connection and relationship.
