@overhorseman @RownouArts Well AI generated is the antithesis of art, you're preaching a moral high horse when artists rn are STRUGGLING because of ai, these leeches who profit from stolen work of countless artists. Money that could've gone to REAL working artists whose labor should be compensated.

I tend to block AI "artists" on sight, but I saw one with a P*treon and got curious, looked at it, and they earn €379 per month from it-- Thinking about the multiple real artists I follow who are financially struggling real bad at the same time, it was super depressing to see

Japan's industry ministry says piracy losses for Japanese content have exceeded roughly $63 billion. It blames the weak yen and rising prices, then suggests using "AI" to produce official cheaper localizations.🥺 Do you support AI-powered localization as an anti-piracy measure??

@Zero0Ex Who are you to dictate what their art is worth? I've been working with artists charging half that price for quality work and we all happy, are you going to shout into their ears to up the price and lose all of their regulars? Get real.

@Betrigansmh If an artist charges $100 and I can only afford $25 that someone else is offering, was I hurting THAT artist by not buying from them? Don't think so.

I want to make a statement and it may be controversial to some. I’m very against GenAI. I’ve seen a lot more people use it as a shortcut recently I can respect the tool and how it works, and realize some AI is beneficial, but you are actively hurting others. Artists are losing work and having their work stolen. Data centers are going up and people are being told to move if they want water or electricity AI has its uses, but in the way we are going with it it should just not exist. I know I’ve lost sponsorships for saying I will not support AI, but somewhere you have to say no Please just pay artists. It really isn’t that expensive and you get to see so many different styles come to life. AI images and promotions always seem to have this filter over it and it really looks like the most unappealing thing ever

@Vinent17 @bmodoart @alexvai93 To get what *you* need out of the AI, and to an extend, someone else's *specific need* out of it. Same as artists turning client's vision into illustration, it fits said client *specifically* and no one else.

"Gen ai is theft" What is being stolen? "My work is being used without my consent" If you didn't want people to see and use your art for inspiration then why did you post it? "It takes no work to use Gen AI" This isn't even true. These images require the creative input of humans to exist.
YorSkyDaddy, The Shadow Vtuber 👥🤟@YorSkyDaddy

Hot take: If you use Gen Ai, every artist SHOULD black list you. You've already proven you have no problem stealing and no respect for the arts so why shouldn't they avoid you at all costs? Art is a luxury that can be withheld. VTUBERS I'm looking at you especially. 👊

@Vinent17 @bmodoart @alexvai93 Short answer: No. Long answer: LLM "AI" isn't a magic tool, even the same prompt will produce different results upon each reroll. You're pretty much playing a gacha game, and sometimes the system even bugged and generate garbage too.

@Ron_BWL @bmodoart @alexvai93 Okay, here's a question for you. Can I copy someone else's prompt and get result just as good, while, perhaps tweaking a few things to better suit my needs? And if I do, can I be considered a good AI artist?

@Vinent17 @bmodoart @alexvai93 You're literally describing a toddle scribbling on the paper vs. an actual artist. Anyone can prompt, but only experienced one can get decent and consistent result out of it. Pretending it's not a skill is simply disingenuous.

@bmodoart @alexvai93 No, it really doesn't. As long as you can talk and string at least three words in a sentence, you can write prompts. The difference in the result quality between a person who's just started and an experienced "ai artist" is nonexistent. Therefore it's not a skill.

@nelxbk739rw @TheGoldenSmurf Funny, because I recall going through hell to even be able to buy a Kindle ebook (requiring live address), or when I tried to purchase stuff from DUGA that rejected my card for no apparent reason. Again, don't blame people when you reject their money.

Being a "broke girlie" is no excuse. Pick up a pencil and start learning. Instead of taking part in ruining our environment. And remember art is a LUXURY you don't NEED it. Complaining about the price will get you no where.

I see no problem with using AI. I'm sorry but as a broke girlie, I'm not spending 100 bucks on an art piece that imma use for one thing and never use it again. now if I was going to sell merch and make a profit off of it. Then I would go to an actual artist and commission someone. I would pay for that!

@RitzyVT I commission artists within my budget and use AI to generate stuff for private usage, simple as that. It's easy to live with both as a consumer, it's only rough for the artists themselves tho.

@TheMG3D My artist once hand-drawn stuff, now she used AI to speed things up and I'm fine with it. Reason is simple: Consistent style, I get exactly what I want, and I don't have to fight the AI for it.

Why would anyone want to pay an ai bro when they hypothetically could do it themselves with AI? Is using AI super easy or is it hard because they keep switching it up
Malimber@malimber01

@TheMG3D The beauty of it is Anit-AI people will be the architects of their own destruction. They will scream into the void as their commissions dry up because now nobody has to deal with their hissy fits. Your work is only as valuable as much as others will pay for it.

@Zmeinir Here's the thing the art community missed: People aren't discouraged by real artists, they're discouraged by the "audience" who's only looking for what they want. (I could elaborate, but X's limited char won't allow me to).

Little rant about my experience as an artist and how I see AI bros' behavior When I was a kid, I was called a gifted kid because I could draw, and it fascinated both classmates and Adults. I'm sure a lot of fellow artists had a similar experience, since it was quite rare to see irl especially before socials became so widespread. Some were envious, some simply curious, and some trying to befriend me to get free art even then. Honestly I didn't mind the ego boost, but I noticed a repeated pattern of "I wish I could do that!" "you're so lucky you can draw" "you're so talented, unlike me", dismissing their own skills or insisting they couldn't do anything. Adults said something fun wasnt a real job, that I should think of getting a job like theirs instead. Now in the era of AI 'art', those same persons who used to envy artists have an easy access to an illusion of talent and skill. They spit on the stolen work of every artist whose art has been fed into AI to flatter their fragile ego and look down on artists. They say artists will loose their jobs and get replaced, when they don't even understand why that's false or what it takes. But the truth is they cope, they stay in the comfort of denial, saying THEY created the results AI give them. Saying prompting is a skill, because they want it to be one. They'd kill to do the same as artists, to have a passion, a talent, to captivate people and get praised for something they created with their own hands. To make money out of their passion. But besides AI bros boosting each other's egos, no one will genuinely compliment AI 'art'. And if anyone did, upon learning it was AI they'll take it back because it has no value at all. It's stolen, empty, and made with no passion or love whatsoever (and probably a ton of mistakes up close too) I just think it's sad because anyone can draw well. It just takes practice, but they're not even willing to try. Instead, they just hide behind insults and superior complex. Behind a false sense of achievement. NO ARTIST will ever say "you have no skill, you suck" to someone genuinely trying to get into art. The art community is very welcoming, just pick up the pen and have fun with us!
Michael@TheMG3D

If you’re bad at drawing the only way to get better is to keep drawing. Using Gen AI doesn’t make you an artist

I really don't get why artists HATE their stuff being reupped to booru sites when: >It gets properly attributed / sourced to them 99% of the time >Their art is isn't at the whim of an algo which picks and choses who gets to see it or not on a whim >Easier to look at their work without having to scroll 999 irrelevant food pics or reaction images in their media tab There's basically no difference between it being on a booru site and pixiv other then pixiv they have more control over it - both are essentially just portfolios of their work.

How does this keep happening??? - An artist starts taking commissions - They take on too many... - Artist is also always posting about how they are also out of money too... - Patient commissioners are too patient and let the artist go without much communication or "bothering" - Lots of time passes... sometimes a YEAR or more without the work being done - Commissioner starts reaching out but often gets ignored or if they do get a response its "soon it will be done" - Doesn't get any response until they make a call out post - The artist then has to write a huge post about how they are overworking themselves to finish everything or giving refunds... If you're an artist, learn to communicate actual answers... not just tell people what they wanna hear. It hurts to upset people, but it's worse to ruin your reputation because you want to make everyone happy but you legit can't cause you over booked yourself. Most people will be understanding if you are honest. Also some advice, don't accept money for a project until you are STARTING THE PROJECT. If you are a commissioner, I know what ts like to not wanna rush somoene, but stand yp for yourself. No art should be taking over 6 months to do after you have paid unless its a huge project that has been explained as needing to take that long. This type of situation cant keep happening. It sucks for everyone involved.
