What has Nottinghamshire Police been allocating precious training time to in the years since the #NottinghamInquiry attacks? “Mandatory black history training for all its officers and staff all-year round” Apparently that's more important than knowing how to investigate crime.

Despite vast sums spent on IT systems and huge amounts of paperwork for officers, Britain's railway cops apparently have no idea how enforcement of specific railway byelaw offences varies across time or geography.

@MentalHealthCop The fact that the force called Response Inspectors 'Demand Management Inspectors' speaks volumes, IMO.

Had a meeting this morning so unable to watch the start of Kate Meynell's evidence but as I log in to it, the inquiry is hearing the Chief Constable "can't answer" what kind of training inspectors get for critical incidents. Err ... 😮 #NottinghamInquiry

METHANE messages - and the quality of them - have featured in evidence to the #NottinghamInquiry. The issues emerging are not limited to Nottinghamshire. This was put out by one force on their official account...👇
Rory Geoghegan@rorygeo

In this era of mass stabbing attacks, @aspolice seem to think it's perfectly fine for officers to laugh and giggle about not knowing how to declare a major incident. Incredibly, this isn't AI or parody, it's their own public-facing comms - saved only by the PC at the very end.👇

Good uniform design matters, and when we win, we must do away with the full hi-viz embarrassment jackets. We turned the most aesthetically beautiful police uniform in the world into bin men.

One lesson from this photo going viral is that good uniform design matters. This shot is rad as hell. If the same guy were doing the same thing while wearing bulky tacticool gear and a facemask no one would give a shit.

There is an unseriousness to British policing. We see it every single time unarmed officers end up dealing with an armed suspect. We see it with the idea that Taser is a sufficient halfway house between being unarmed and armed. We see it when public order tactics are limited to shields and horses. It is all made possible by unserious leaders who would rather appease "communities" than police them.

A more charitable point: British police are unready for such challenges as hitherto this is not how people behaved under the social compact of British life. We are fast eroding the shared understanding that made society work. We are spending the treasure that love cannot afford.

Yep, fully agree Rory. It will need an awful lot of work though - work that would be diametrically opposed to the ongoing 'change' initiatives currently in full swing - certainly within @metpoliceuk I really can't see any meaningful change in this direction being implemented any time soon.
Rory Geoghegan@rorygeo

Policing is in the grip of doctrinal drift, ideological capture and groupthink. Easily fixed if human @policechiefs were prepared to admit their errors. But it means accepting and acting on the basic truths from @SpeechUnion, @WeAreFairCop and @PublicSafetyFdn.

The policymaking backdrop to this includes a totally lop-sided and ideologically-extreme policing and criminal justice landscape awash with well-funded campaigners, charities and activists lobbying government and public officials/bodies (including police forces and PCCs) to (endlessly) reduce arrests, charges, stop and search, the use of prison and remands in custody etc. They have little or no regard for public safety in specific cases, favouring instead the pursuit of abolitionism and dangerously misguided outcomes such as "racial equity".

Couldn’t agree more. Keep it simple…..
DRB@DRB67

@drsanjoykumar He should have been charged and remanded in to custody of magistrates court , he should never have been released under investigation or on bail Having served for 33 years I find the whole situation to be embarrassing and complete neglect , laziness , incompetence ,

“You’ve been asking questions that have been causing some people harm and distress,” a police officer tells women’s rights activist Kellie-Jay Keen - as she is removed from an International Women’s Day event in Nottingham today. What questions had she been asking? Whether women’s spaces - including domestic violence shelters and other services for vulnerable women - are actually women-only. If this is the first time you’ve encountered Kellie-Jay Keen, you may find watching this video uncomfortable. You might ask yourself whether it’s really necessary to shout things like: “No woman has a penis.” “Woman is an adult human female.” Surely there must be a more polite way of going about it. But Keen - like many women - has been raising these concerns for nearly a decade. And two female police officers just told her they couldn't define the word woman, because doing so might upset men who identify as women - on International Women’s Day. This harmful ideology has spread through education, healthcare, politics and the media permeating almost every aspect of public life - seeking to erase women and strip away their rights, while presenting itself as inclusion. It's now too late for polite euphemisms. Women - and men - need to speak plainly and clearly. A woman is an adult human female. Women cannot, under any circumstances, have penises. Anyone claiming otherwise is repeating a falsehood. And when even police officers are afraid to state an obvious truth, that isn’t progressive - it is authoritarianism. This is pure and authentic Whitehall: “...low-level crime such as shoplifting, phone theft, anti-social behaviour and vandalism...” It's not “low-level” when it's your shop getting hit, your phone being stolen, your life being ruined or your property being damaged. Sigh.

We should commend individual bravery - but we should condemn the failure to equip officers for the threats they face. The folly of routinely unarmed policing continues.👇

I resigned yesterday from the Foreign Office. Having been bound by civil service impartiality for the past decade it’s liberating to be able finally to speak my mind. I intend to make up for lost time. The Foreign Office, in my view, is in many ways failing. As is much of Whitehall. I’ve written for The Times digging into some of the reasons why. Fixing the state machine is absolutely vital - none of the fundamental problems afflicting our country can be dealt with unless we do so. There’s obviously much more to say. And so watch this space. thetimes.com/comment/column…

This is the monster that was the last thing my beautiful boy saw. It will haunt me forever. 💔 Please RT. If you can. 🙏 This shows the true evil that destroyed so many lives on the 13th June 2023. ALL of this was entirely preventable; if so many individuals and organisations had just done their jobs properly. There must be a reckoning. #nottinghaminquiry 💛💚
