Violence against women is one of the oldest and most persistent health problems, yet least acted upon. An estimated 840 million women globally – 1 in 3 women – have faced violence at least once in their lifetime including 263 million who have suffered sexual violence. Behind every statistic is a woman or girl whose life has been forever altered. We urge governments, law makers, policy makers, families, communities, and health systems to work together to make sure women and girls are empowered and safe everywhere.
