@jb_in_gp @nut_history You act like there are a ton of relief pitchers in the HOF. Only 9. There are only 4 pure kickers in the PFHOF. Only one was a first ballot guy (also unanimous). I think the ratios are just fine with who is in there, and think they all rightfully earned their place.

@RoseBowlGuy @nut_history No huge disagreement. But other than outliers like Mariano Rivera and about 5 others, relievers are kind of interchangeable. Rarely is one dominant for 10 years. Kicker is the same. Rarely HOF worthy. Hall of very good.

@jb_in_gp @nut_history Kickers have won more games for teams than any position other than QB. Guys like Sutter and Fingers made closers a vital part of baseball as we know it today.

@HearingMerrit @nut_history When you have 4 WS rings, 3 CYs (when they only gave out one award for the entire league), 2 WS MVPs, 1 League MVP, 3 Tripple Crowns, 5 ERA Titles and 7 AS selections over a 12 year career, you’re a undeniable Hall of Famer. Saying Koufax doesn’t belong is nonsense.

@nut_history Dizzy Dean. Rabbit Maranville. Sandy Koufax. (he maybe had the most dominant four-year stretch in baseball history. But you don’t go into the Hall of Fame based on four years.)

@Greyson2020 @notgaetti He is in my book. He made the Angels relevant. Winning percentage is also very good. Once Bochy and Dusty go in this winter, I could see him on the ballot with Tito in 2029.

You can see from the table in the graphic just how rare it is to get 2000 managerial wins — only 13 have done it! Then look at the enormous gap between first and second, where Connie Mack leads TLR by a whopping score of 3731 to 2884. Ole Cornelius managed for 53 years! 🤯

Not enough people talk about Tommy Lasorda • 0-4 (.000), 6.15 ERA, 1.869 WHIP, 67 ERA+ • But 1599-1439 (.526) as LAD's manager • Managed the Dodgers for 21 seasons • Bled Dodger Blue more than anyone • Elected to the Baseball HOF in 1997 • 4x NL pennant, 2x WS Champion • Knew his players' families' names • 2x Manager of the Year (1983, 1988) • Famously, fiercely loyal to his players • K.O.'d the Phillie Phanatic on 8/28/88 • His #2 jersey is retired by the Dodgers • Was the oldest living HOF'er 2018-2021 • Famous for his explicative-laden tirades • Was Dodgers interim GM for part of 1998 • Epic, years-long feud with Kurt Bevacqua • Led USA to Olympic Gold (2000 in Sydney) • (First manager to win a WS & Olympic Gold) • Coached 3B in the 2001 MLB All-Star Game • Missed 2 MiLB seasons to serve in the Army • Tied MLB record w/ 3 wild pitches in 1 inning • Struck out 25 in a 15-inning game on 5/31/48 • Managed LAD for part of spring training 2008 • Had one iconic outing as a pitcher on April 17, 1956, earning his only big league save after locking down a 2-1 victory over Detroit with the tying run at 3B • Lasorda is among the top-25 winningest managers of all time, and one of the most decorated; only 12 managers in MLB history have more wins *and* a higher winning percentages than he does Subscriber nomination by @PeteATurner

@notgaetti I’m good with Peak Performance guys with shorter careers going into the Hall. If I could put 5 SS into the hall today, currently eligible with no PED taint, I’d go Dahlen, Wills, Campeneris, Rollins & Nomar.

@ItsMeMTJohnson @FBallAnalysisYT Don’t forget silver slugger which is not seen from catchers in this day and age. So 3 time champ, mvp, silver slugger, 1 gold glove only because Yadier got the nod almost every year. He’s a first ballot guy

@OSmithCollector @ItsMeMTJohnson @TrainaStrong @FBallAnalysisYT Saying Posey shouldn’t be in because Munson isn’t doesn’t work. Munson would be viewed very differently on today’s ballot. Poset was elite during his career. You only need 10 years as a player to make the ballot and he did as much as any player in a short career.

@BaseballWRLD_ 500HRs alone won’t get him into the HOF. He’d be the weakest member of the club with numbers far worse than Killebrew. Career 500 HRs with 1800 Hits, a .230BA and 34 WAR shouldn’t get anyone in.

@RoseBowlGuy @RipSays @PauleyMo67 @JesusSavesPHL @podoffame Baines is not what I look for in a Hall of Famer - don’t think he was ever even a top 10 player in his league. I need at least glimpses of greatness or an elite peak. I can accept that other people put a much higher value on just being a solid, durable player.
