Our thoughts and prayers are with the Barta family and Smith Center as legendary Kansas HS football coach Roger Barta has passed away at the age of 79 as first reported by Kansas Pregame. “Someone here is the best football player on the team, and someone is the worst,” Barta said. “It’s time to forget about that. Let’s respect each other. When we respect each other, we’ll like each other. When we like each other, we’ll love each other. That’s when, together, we’ll become champions.” “One more thing, guys. We don’t talk about winning and losing. We talk about getting a little better every day, about being the best we can be, about being a team. And when we do that, winning and losing take care of themselves.” Roger Barta Smith Center Redmen 79 consecutive wins Under Barta, the Smith Center Redmen won eight state football titles, set the Kansas record for consecutive wins with 79 in a row, and complied a record of 323-68 from 1978-2012. Barta, a Kansas Sports Hall of Famer, retired in 2012 from SC. Smith Center was also the setting of New York Times best selling book by Joe Drape, “Our Boys: A Perfect Season on the Plains with the Smith Center Redmen”. Barta coached numerous players that went on to college football and even a couple to the NFL. Barta was born in Ellsworth in 1945 but grew up in Plainville. He graduated from FHSU and the University of Georgia. He also served as an assistant at Tonganoxie, Atwood and Wakeeney prior to taking the SC job. His son Brooks is also a Kansas coaching legend with the Holton program. The street leading to the football stadium was named “Roger Barta Way” several years ago to honor coach Barta’s Iasting impact. Why does it seem there is a major problem in society with a standard? I have been coaching for 33 years and there is a standard to be on my team. A standard to coach alongside me. Freedom is a gift. When it’s abused on my team it’s decreased. When student-athletes overstep their boundaries, there are consequences. I have faced them in my life and they have helped to transform me into something better. Responsibility is on the other end of freedom. Thank you God for showing us the way.

ACGC season by season since joining in 2016. Through the combination of great coaches, dedicated athletes, established standards & culture, and investing back into facilities. Special things continue to happen and will continue to happen. Everyone is pulling the rope the same direction. There is a reason why the entrance to the weight room says “Culture Wins”

Feel free to copy & paste to your team today…. 😀 WINNERS AND THEIR SUMMERS WORKOUTS   The BEST 3 REP MAX  With summer workouts beginning Monday, I thought it would be a good time to discuss 2 types of people. The 2 types are 1) Average Andy and 2) Winner Willie.  Let me explain what I mean and how both get to workouts. Average Andy:   Saturday - no thoughts of summer workouts Sunday - stray thoughts of “dang summer workouts start tomorrow.’  I have to be there at 7:30, I can leave at 7:20 and make it.  I will wake up at 7:15.  Monday - Hit the snooze button, dread getting out of bed (actually say to self “its summer time, why am i doing this?”), roll out of bed, put clothes on and stumble out of the house and arrive late, claiming “I aint late!”  Success…… NOT even close! Winner Willie: Saturday - already thinking about Monday's workout, anticipating getting the summer started and somewhat excited to show up and get better.  A little concerned about what we will be doing, what time I will need to get there, what time I will have to get up….. Sunday - thoughts continue to run amok about Monday's workouts… Design a plan to make sure I am early because the coach always says “To be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late, and to be late is, well……terrible.   So Winner Willie starts with: I want to be in the field house at 7:15! I live 10 minutes away, so I will leave at 6:55 so I have time to account for bad traffic, car problems, walking to the field house from my parking spot…. I will need to eat breakfast at 6:30 because I know that is the gas that my body needs to run on and is most healthy for me….. So I will set my alarm for 6:00 and when it goes off, I know I have 18 seconds to  1Put my feet on the floor 2Get my butt off the bed 3Get my body in the shower This is the best 3RM of the day!  If I hit the snooze button I am a loser.  Coach says “Snoozers are Losers!”  I am no loser!   This way I have plenty of time to take care of my business, have a winning start to my day and be the best that I can be Monday - ACTION, LET’S DO IT! It's already been done in the mind 20 times, knock it out! Winners Win! Losers Lose!  I will start my day with the 3RM of winners!
