@LukeEdwardsTele The recruitment has been awful. Which is on the Howe duo by the way. But this narrator only fits if they were missing multiple chances per game. Service and playing style has been the biggest issue.

Newcastle’s campaign destroyed by dud strikers – this is how they fix it #nufc telegraph.co.uk/football/2026/…

Singling out our strikers as the root of our issues is a lazy narrative.
Our wingers, who are meant to provide service to our Strikers have just 4 assists combined.
Why not mention Elanga or Gordon? Or mention the Keepers, who’ve both been atrocious all season? 🤔

The comparison between Anthony Gordon and Moussa Sissoko is starting to feel uncomfortably accurate for many, even if the two players possess very different skills sets. The core of the "Sissoko 2.0" argument lies in that specific brand of frustration where a player’s ceiling is clearly world-class, yet their floor is a total vanishing act.
Sissoko was the ultimate enigma; he could look like the best midfielder in Europe during a televised game against a big-six club and then spend the next month looking like he’d forgotten the rules of the game. We are seeing those same 'hot and cold' flashes with Gordon now, where his blistering pace and clinical finishing from last season are being replaced by games where he struggles to complete simple passes or maintain his trademark intensity.
The "sulky" reputation is another major bridge between them. Sissoko’s body language was often a lightning rod for criticism, as he frequently looked like he’d rather be anywhere else when things got difficult. While Gordon’s frustration often looks more like fiery aggression, it manifests in a similar way—disputing substitutions, visual gestures of annoyance at teammates, and a general aura of discontent that suggests his head might be elsewhere.
Much like Sissoko famously used his platform with the French national team to flirt with Champions League clubs, the constant noise surrounding Gordon’s potential move back to the North West creates a narrative that he is simply using St James' Park as a high-profile waiting room.
However, it is worth noting that Gordon’s "cold" spells still usually involve a level of defensive tracking and pressing that Sissoko rarely bothered with when he wasn't in the mood. Sissoko’s disappearing acts were often total, whereas Gordon’s usually look more like a loss of confidence or tactical isolation. Whether he is truly Sissoko 2.0 or just a young(ish) player going through a rough patch depends entirely on his commitment over the next few months. If the inconsistency continues while the exit talk gets louder, he will find it very difficult to escape the label that defined Sissoko’s legacy in the North East.
Does it feel to you like Gordon is actively forcing an exit, or is he just a victim of the team's overall lack of identity lately?

@DeanMNicho21378 No one would be getting the ball of me on a Sunday morning for The Station like 😂
English

@RossWhite90 Haha YES!!! And rightly so mate!!! It’s not Sunday morning football. Insane that anyone thinks he should have man.

Players having a pop at Gordon for taking the second pen. Clueless. Imagine Alan Shearer passing that on? #NUFC

@RossWhite90 Not Villa’s fault what the officials do or don’t do my friend

Acting like he and Newcastle weren’t completely anonymous until the red card… such a weird cult fanbase

Aston Villa haven’t been able to get near Nick Woltemade all night. He’s been superb in that No.10 position, an absolute joy to watch. #NUFC

@VlLLADAD @wrightyavfc If there was VAR you’d of been lucky to still be in with a chance by half time man
English

@wrightyavfc Very reactionary mate. We win that game with 11. We know it and the mags know it. Not like we got knocked out for playing badly.

@_emilygoldie Strange ‘partnership’ when one sulks on the bench when the other one plays. Not sure who this Isak bloke is anyway. Never heard of him
English

@RossWhite90 Hows Ekitike getting on with Isak for Newcastle, is it a good partnership ??
