#TDF2026 Stage 9. Break tombola!
*** Mads Pedersen
** M van der Poel - Simmons
* Abrahamsen - Castrillo - García Pierna
150 km of hilly terrain. They shortened the stage with 30 km due to extreme heat. That is just a bit over 3 hours of racing. The intermediate sprint comes after 14.5 km already and is a bit uphill: perfect for Mads to extend his lead. Trek will start furious and drop the pure sprinters. This will be part I of Lidl Trek in this stage.
Part II of Lidl Trek will be to help Pedersen win the stage and get him as much as possible points for the green jersey. Mads starts the stage as the favourite but I am not as convinced as stage 4. This stage profile is more open. The final is easier than stage 4, with in my view a bigger group, and therefore not easy to control. Pedersen will need strong rides by Simmons, Vacek or any other team mate in the break. Simmons himself is also a good one for the stage win if somehow it doesnt work out with Mads. Not many riders want to go to the line with Pedersen. 1 riders who doest mind to go to the line with Pedersen is Mathieu van der Poel. I think he looked better the last days and he himself stated that too. Not many chances for a rider like Mathieu, this stage is one of them.
In the list of possible winners i included the Movistar duo Castrillo/Pierna. Both riding very strongly. I expect both in the break and both can ride solo. Like i always say about these break stages: having teammates help as it could get tactical. Some other interesting duo’s: Abrahamsen/Cort, Plapp/Schmid and Carapaz/Healy.
Part III of Lidl Trek: Vacek in yellow. I believe UAE could give the break a big lead and Vacek would be closest in GC of riders I expect to go in the break. Therefore I can see Vacek being in the break and motivated to work as hard as he can to extend the lead of the break, helping Mads and Simmons and increasing his own chances on yellow. The stage win will in that case be impossible.
To conclude: Visma stated to have no plans to go in the break. No plans (yet), other then Jonas. For me the same goes for UAE but I am less sure. Wellens or McNulty could join the break. Pidcock said he will decide about GC ambitions after the rest day. Stage 10 looks way better for him, just like it does for Carapaz and Johannessen.
After two sprint stages this stage offers plenty of riders hope for a Tour de France stage win. Hard to predict, fun to watch. Advice: this is a stage you need to watch from the gun!

The chant “Europe, Europe, Europe” rising from the banks of the Danube, in front of the Hungarian Parliament in Budapest, where Péter Magyar @magyarpeterMP is celebrating his electoral victory, is a cry that shakes the conscience of us all. It lifts our spirits, fills us with joy, and gives us hope that this era of sovereigntism and populism may soon be consigned to the past. Long live a united and democratic Europe!

"Mum,
This letter is your present for March 8! If you think raising me was in vain, you are mistaken. Thank you for the best 9 years of my life!
Thank you so much for my childhood!!!
You're the best mum in the world!
I will never forget you!
I wish you happiness in the sky! I hope you make it to heaven!
See you in heaven! I'll try to behave well so I can get there too.

Today marks exactly four years since Putin started his three-day push to take Kyiv. And that says a great deal about our resistance, about how Ukraine has fought all this time. Behind those words stand millions of our people, immense courage, incredibly hard work, endurance, and the long path Ukraine has been pursuing since February 24.
Looking back at the beginning of the invasion and reflecting on today, we have every right to say: we have defended our independence, we have not lost our statehood; Putin has not achieved his goals. He has not broken Ukrainians; he has not won this war. We have preserved Ukraine, and we will do everything to secure peace and justice. Glory to Ukraine!

Russia talks with violence - again.
Kyiv stayed awake through the night as 450 drones and 70 ballistic/cruise missiles tore into homes & public facilities.
Across several regions strikes injured dozens and damaged homes, energy sites & civilian infrastructure.
