Anniversary today of the death of Shinsengumi commander Kondō Isami in 1868. The Shinsengumi were a police force in Bakumatsu Kyōto, easily the best setting for 'samurai' sword-fighting scenarios. Figures by Bac Ninh.

@Staffan_G @SvenFu @Joe_Wargamer Thanks! I've not tried the hobby primer (will do so!). Normally two thin coats of enamel basecoat. I'm a big fan of two or three thin coats (again!) of glass varnish (Humbrol) before matt varnishing, especially as the figures get used a lot. #NoRightWay #JustKeepPainting

@SvenFu @RoundwoodsWorld @Joe_Wargamer When I paint metal minis I do the following steps: 1. Good thorough clean 2. Mr Hobby metal primer 3. Enamel basecoat 4. Paint as usual 5. A gloss varnish for strength 6. A matt varnish for looks A bit much perhaps but I hate chipping paint!

@SvenFu @Joe_Wargamer Hi Sven....great to meet you indeed. That grey primer would do the trick. But any Humbrol enamel works well. I like priming in a light brown (Matt 29) as it helps wth shading and doesn't distort the colour paints 👍👍

The Copplestone Back of Beyond range is fantastic but they do lack some suitable figures to do a proper platoon. After many years of thinking about it, I've finally made some bombers and rifle-bombers. Not exactly works of art but they'll paint up OK. #spreadthelard
