@RoyMBE @71Season I'm going to have to dust off the book. At the end of WW2 did he travel with the British army to play some football games for the troops etc?

This morning I was passing Home Farm FC and on the radio they were talking about today being #WorldBookDay It made me think of this lovely book by @RoyMBE about Johnny Carey who played for Home Farm and also captained United for Sir Matt's first FA Cup win & League title.

@Cantona_Collars @71Season Matt certainly said that, and at tge time would struggle to find a better all round footballer. Also one of finest men you could meet.

@71Season @RoyMBE By all accounts he was an incredibly versatile footballer. He was voted in the football writers team of the year in 5 different seasons in 5 different positions Roy will correct me but I think Busby said that he was the most complete footballer in the world (along them lines)

@Cantona_Collars @71Season After the war a match between Gt Britain & Rest of Europe at Hampden Park played. Johnny was asked to captain Gt Britain before they realised he was from Ireland. So Rest of Europe, asked him to captain them. When I interviewed him at home, that was one of shirts he had kept.

Well Gary its the headline they need to alter. Is it best of that day, week, year? OR best of all time ? My book went back to 1878 covering teams from five eras, then my best 11 had seen over 70 years. Do they know who Billy Meredith was?!.

Best ever MUFC 11… unbelievable. I can’t imagine how long-standing Utd fans feel about this. My grandad would’ve been livid that Duncan Edwards, Denis Law & George Best are missing. What about Cantona too. Thoughts @BPete1970 @WayneSBarton @RoyMBE

@YesterdaysStars On his way to being United's leading league goal scorer with 32. Which STILL stands 66 years on. A truly great footballer.

@RoyMBE @bishopafc I remember Warren Bradley joining United from Bishop Aukland for a short time after Munich. It was amazing that such a ‘patched-up team’ was able to fulfil their fixtures and even reached the FA cup final.

Having wrote the book, then the play about how much @bishopafc helped United after Munich, I was honoured today to receive this lovely momento of the book and that play

@Cantona_Collars @DanBreenNJ Firstly I always knew him as Johnny Bńerry, don't recall many if any, saying John Berry. As a winger think more Steve Coppell. Total team player, who individually, was top class. Probably the eldest of The Busby Babes but carried his responsibilities to the highest level.

@RoyMBE @DanBreenNJ I know you don't like to do comparisons but as a winger was he more jinky like Giggs who could beat his man inside or outside or was he more like Kanchelskis who more directly could beat his man inside or out?

@DanBreenNJ @Cantona_Collars Oh yes, he hugged the line but could beat his man inside or outside. Only Matthews and,Finney kept him from more caps. Far too underrated, he helped win the 1952 title before both 1956 and 57. Deserves to be there with the great United no7's.

@RoyMBE @Cantona_Collars Roy, in almost every clip I’ve seen of the Babes, Berry stands out - it appears that he played a vital role in the attack. Excellent control and put defenses on their heels. Does that align with what you saw in those days?
