🚨Canada is now using Communist style tactics and The Mental Health Act to medically incarcerate people with dissenting Views. This man, Nicholas Jordan Wagter, was declared “certified” without so much as a psychiatric evaluation and forceably detained for having dissenting views of the government. In the Soviet Union, they invented “sluggish schizophrenia” to lock up political dissidents in psychiatric hospitals for years. China does the same today with Falun Gong practitioners, Uyghurs, and anyone questioning the CCP. Cuba still uses psychiatric wards as political prisons.

I'd be the first to cry foul if the Cdn gov't, or various provinces, were detaining persons under the Mental Health Act for being political dissidents. This is not an example of that. In this case, this man has been leaving a 12-page document (in small text) on people's vehicles. The final page contains photographs of the man's driver license and Social Insurance Number card (which I won't post to protect his privacy, although it doesn't seem that will make much difference at this point.) His document begins with a disclaimer to say that removing it from someone else's car is "willful obstruction of the course of justice under section 139 of the criminal code" and threatens people with 10 years in prison for doing so. It goes on to make criticisms of Bills C-9 and C-15. Later sections of the document include "nuclear fusion solved," and "holographic gravity has been verified via nuclear fusion" along with taking credit for his own "unified theory of gravity," plus a warning that he believes "they may be building a bomb with this tech." How many copies of this document this guy is leaving around the city, I'm not sure, but someone gave me their copy a few weeks back. He's clearly unwell. This now-viral post is misinformation. Full stop.

A resident psychiatrist he says never examined him tells him he is being “certified” under the Mental Health Act, and that police will now drive him to a hospital for testing he never agreed to. Here is the part that should stop you cold: under British Columbia's law, that may be 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐥. One physician's signature on a single form authorizes holding you for 48 hours. A second buys a full month. A 2009 BC appeals court ruling found the doctor doesn't even have to personally interview you first — notes from your family and a look can be enough. It gets worse. BC is 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐝𝐚 where, once you are certified, you are “deemed to consent” to whatever treatment they choose — forced medication included. You cannot refuse. There is no automatic hearing; you have to apply for one yourself, and you can wait up to two weeks while they hold and medicate you. And these aren't paper safeguards that quietly work. When BC's own Ombudsperson audited these detentions, 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝟐𝟖% 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬 had the legally required forms filled out. More than half of patients were never even handed the document telling them they had a right to fight it. This is not some rare glitch. Involuntary detentions in BC rose 66% in a decade. Police apprehensions under the act more than doubled. Over 20,000 people a year. A man can be taken from the roadside, locked in a ward, and medicated against his will on one stranger's say-so, with no judge anywhere in sight. A biophysics grad was just detained under BC's Mental Health Act. All based on a psychiatrist's opinion after observing him in a cafe. He looked at him & said “I’m certifying you” THAT’S ALL IT TOOK. No warrant. No on scene evaluation. No psych evaluation. No paperwork shown. No chance to comply voluntarily. Just because a psychiatrist saw him in a cafe. Meanwhile, the same city has a documented drug addicts, where one person, has been apprehended 79 times and is still on the street. The government can grab a credentialed researcher off the road in 20 minutes but it can't keep a chronic offender out of the same intersection for more than a week? What a joke.

Treaty 8 was entered into in 1899 before Alberta existed as a province. At that time, what is now Alberta was part of the Northwest Territories and under federal/Dominion jurisdiction. In 1905, Alberta became a province, meaning governance over the same territory changed in a major way. Then, in 1930, Canada transferred control of Crown lands, natural resources, mines, minerals and water to Alberta under the Natural Resources Transfer Agreement. Those were profound jurisdictional changes. Yet Treaty rights were not extinguished or impacted by either event. That history matters. Alberta independence does not threaten Treaty rights.
