@RunCoachTripp I have a 1st alternate for my relays. That person has the hardest job, they have to know the steps for each of the 4 spots. And yes, we do practice that scenario.

Relay alternates are the track equivalent of "the bench" or "6th man" in team sports. Having alternates assigned is a practical necessity in training and could be the difference between All-State and DNS. Shout out to all the alternates. You are appreciated!

@RunCoachTripp 100%. We had a kid come down with the flu at state. Our alternate stepped up big time and got our 400m and 800m relays to finals. He got a 7th place medal and put us in a position for the 400m relay to get 4th when the original runner came back.

@RunCoachTripp When we are fortunate enough to medal at state, any time the team medals anyone who ran the relay at any point gets a medal too like they do with rounds in the Olympics. They earned it and we wouldn’t get the BIG prize without all involved. Alternates matter 💯

@RunCoachTripp Absolutely! Had an alt go in at state in the 4x1 (lead leg) a couple years back and he got the job done. 1st place. Was so proud and still am!

Faith Abunaw finishes 2nd place in the 400m. Faith ran 57.16 last week to break the school record, and betters that mark today by a full second (56.13). State Bound!!!! 🎟👊 #C5S2

Relay cards are archaic... Check-in tables should be required to have laptops or tablets to make changes instantaneously I will die on this hill....

Water therapy is the best therapy. 🌊 Shaking out the nerves and the legs with another active recovery pool day. Ready to leave it all out there at Sectionals Saturday! #RoadToState

It was cool to have a couple of alumni back for practice today. If we have qualifiers advance to state, im calling out all alumni to come back home and get a workout in next Tuesday! Lets Go! 🐻⬇️

@Blacklib1978 Warning or not, the kid didn't do anything that was disrespectful, targeted or unsportsmanlike. He was penalized because someone (an official) "didn't like" what he did, not because he violated any rules. 👇🏾 This was as disrespectful as it gets and there was no DQ. 👇🏾

@RunCoachTripp He was warned beforehand for prior behavior … 100+ kids at that meet and nobody else got a unsportsmanlike warning or DQ … tells me all I need to know … stop teaching kids to evade accountability with whataboutism and wordsmith technicalities

@Blacklib1978 Based on the information that I have read, there is no rule that says an athlete cannot raise their hands in celebration. Athletes do far more celebrating in excitement and raise their hands in other sports after scoring TDs, hitting home runs, hitting 3 pointers.

@RunCoachTripp Been the rule the entire track season … don’t be mad at the refs … be mad at the runner who chose to ignore a prior warning and cost his team a chip by acting selfish and undisciplined … could have taken five seconds after the finish line to leave the track and celebrate

@zoomwaltxc Taunting is inexcusable. Showing excitement, cheering, flexing for a camera, etc. is not unsportsmanlike. Let the kids have fun as along as it isn't directed at an official, coach or another athlete.

@RunCoachTripp Never for taunting (which this wasn’t imo) but I don’t understand in track why you can’t display natural excitement for achievement Ex. volleyball after a play, basketball 3 down, baseball/softball HR fist pump, jumping up after a TD, etc. Reasonable excitement should be ok

@RunCoachTripp Thank you coach you beat me to it. We were fortunate enough to be on the business end of it and it matters not. Our system is absurd and there are many better models across the country. This needs to change and the evidence has mounted

You have to run 1:53.00 in the 800m just to qualify for sectionals. Not State...But Sectionals. How can you run 1:55 and not have a chance to compete at SECTIONALS!

If the goal is representation, great. Give each district and sectional 2 auto qualifiers. Let the clock decide the rest of the field across the whole state in each class. You get the best of both worlds… representation AND a more competitive field for state

This is why I absolutely despise Missouri qualifying rules with all of my soul… So many athletes get stuck in a district or sectional that has half the state final in it, but 0 at large qualifiers means some of the best talent in the state gets left at home. Needs fixed ASAP
