@JohnRentoul @richardpbacon Maybe the question should be what is best for the future and the world as it is now, not rehashing arguments from 10 years ago. That's what most people want I suspect (whatever it is)

There’s a ceasefire in the Middle East after a five week war, @GBNEWS viewers are very worried about the impact of rising bills. And what does our Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper do? She refuses to come on @GBNEWS’ Breakfast show to speak to them. 🤷‍♂️ 😞

Well there’s a surprise: HMS Dragon, the only Royal Navy warship deployed to the region during the conflict with Iran, has taken to port for maintenance. The Type 45 destroyer, the only one the Royal Navy had available, headed for the East Mediterranean weeks after the fighting began — and took its time getting there. The Ministry of Defence, which originally denied any problems, now says there are water supply issues. So it’s gone to a safe berth to undergo repairs. No doubt the full story will emerge in the days ahead.

Atari’s Star Wars (1983) is the definitive vector-graphics masterpiece. Sit in the cockpit of an X-Wing and take on the Death Star in a wireframe galaxy far, far away. With digitized voices from the film, it’s a high-speed, immersive arcade triumph.

The UK government doing its best to destroy, as much as possible, the special relationship. We should be there supporting our allies, no questions asked. Totally weakness from this current group. I dread to think where we are on an intelligence footing with the US, probably the worsts it’s been in my lifetime. I can see why they would not trust our government.

So to summarise the leading takes on here: the Jenrick defection is good news for Badenoch, Farage and Starmer and terrible news for Badenoch, Farage and Starmer.

@Mark_G66 @johnkonrad The same Rolls Royce that just packed up their factories and the majority of their business in the UK and moved it to the United States? And has already threatened to relocate to the United States entirely if the UK continues giving them roadblocks?

@Gabriel64869839 If you hesitate to send what are advisory personnel to a NATO ally to help look at arctic security and it's upgrade (the base issue Trump claims is at stake), because Trump may get upset, you are conceding Greenland there and then. That is pure appeasement and wrong

It is wrong, but it was also spectacularly stupid to send troops in what was, despite the retroactive attempt now to claim otherwise, the macho response to Trump. For the UK in particular it was a premature and dumb decision. All to lose and absolutely nothing to be gained.
Ben Obese-Jecty MP@BenObeseJecty

This threat by President Trump to impose tariffs on the UK and seven NATO partners because we’ve deployed a single Army Officer to Greenland alongside our allies is wrong. This constant pressure from the US towards Denmark, and now its military allies, is a huge concern. President Trump risks weakening the very foundations of NATO. Thule Air Base used to have c.10,000 US personnel, now (as Pituffik Space Base) it has c.150. If the US assess Greenland to be strategically important to their flank, we should query why they have drawn down personnel by 98%? As an MP with two USAFE bases in his constituency, one of which hosts US European Command’s Joint Intelligence Center, alongside NATO’s, I question the wisdom of the US in adopting such an aggressive stance towards us as allies when we facilitate its eyes and ears across Europe and Africa as well as significant US air assets, vital to US operations in both continents. Keir Starmer must defend Britain’s interests, something he has consistently failed at regarding Diego Garcia and the Chinese super-embassy. This is a critical test for the Prime Minister.

Territorial integrity and sovereignty are fundamental principles of international law. They are essential for Europe and for the international community as a whole. We have consistently underlined our shared transatlantic interest in peace and security in the Arctic, including through NATO. The pre-coordinated Danish exercise, conducted with allies, responds to the need to strengthen Arctic security and poses no threat to anyone. The EU stands in full solidarity with Denmark and the people of Greenland. Dialogue remains essential, and we are committed to building on the process begun already last week between the Kingdom of Denmark and the US. Tariffs would undermine transatlantic relations and risk a dangerous downward spiral. Europe will remain united, coordinated, and committed to upholding its sovereignty.
