Sen. James Skoufis, a Dem from Orange County, issues a statement that "torches" the NY budget process. He goes in on Hochul ("... if the Governor ever gets out of her helicopter"). Seems to threaten some sort of action by the Senate investigations committee, which he chairs.

State Sen. James Skoufis wrapped a lengthy denunciation of Gov. Kathy Hochul and the state budget. He's called her a "monarch" and called the budget process broken. He also seemed to rally his colleagues to override Hochul vetoes.

@sarbetter @JamesSkoufis @CapitalTonight Infuriating that 3 months later, @JamesSkoufis is repeating the same misinformation. He's been sent so many documented examples, but he keeps ignoring reality. He can call it what he wants. The result's the same. It makes it more dangerous to mask.

This is troubling, @JamesSkoufis, since there's extensive evidence that the old mask ban was abused to target marginalized groups and activists. Claiming otherwise shows a lack of research. The bill's sponsor ignoring the documented history doesn't inspire confidence.

The mask ban is bad policy.
Hate crimes and harassment are already against the law. This policy would do nothing except deputize police officers to infer intent.
Who will they assume wears a mask for health, and who will they assume wears it with “intent to harass?”
