#CricketTrivia - June 1982, Old Trafford.. Sandeep Patil hit Bob Willis for 6 Fours in an over (one being a no-ball).. scored a century... Later when he lost form.. people used to joke.. put a mask of Willis on the runner.. then he'll come back to form...

#SrinivasVenkataraghavan celebrated his 81st birthday yesterday. A true statesman of the game, Venkat made a stellar debut against New Zealand in 1965, instantly showcasing the guile that would define his career. Here is a look back at some rare captures from that series.

@LaxmanSivarama1 @Chandra06367932 @RSingh6969a Okay.... It conveys a lot of difference for those who read... Your are popular in SM.... Better to be wary of usage .... Considering its wide reach and those you are not well disposed to you or your choice of words .. Thanks

@Chandra06367932 @LaxmanSivarama1 @RSingh6969a If that's the case... Venkat would have been captaining the team.. Did Venky play with Siva or the other way around... What a guy this Siva is .. no wonder success went to his head in 80s ....

@LaxmanSivarama1 @RSingh6969a But this : is appropriate: considering he was India captain and his age : Venky played a Test match before I was born and I played a Test match with him later. He's 80 and 30 years your senior.... Captained India too.. Now we know why you lost commentary job N

Guess the batsman and the bowler! Hint: Batsman: one of the most elegant cricketers to have played the game. Bowler: Played 25 FC games and wrote a memoir. His nephew played domestic cricket for two states and one season in the IPL. #Cricket

Happy Birthday S. Venkataraghavan He was one of India’s finest off-spinners, played 57 Tests from 1964–65 to 1983–84 and was known for his exceptional accuracy and brisk pace through the air. His career highlight came in just his fourth Test, when he claimed 12 for 152 against New Zealand in Delhi, winning both the match and the series. He later captained India, notably on the 1979 England tour, and after retirement went on to serve as coach, manager, and a highly respected umpire, officiating in 73 Tests and 52 ODIs.

This picture is bothering me since 2 days. Here, I don’t care if we are on #3 or #20. What is almost criminal here is to put here with countries which have per capita income of at least $12,313. AT LEAST! Not even talking about US which is massive in size & in population. We shouldn’t be on this table because only in low IQ people of India you would see that 4th or 6th rank and feel proud. Now the question arises why we are failing to break barriers when it comes to per capita income? Now no one even talks about it or seems bothered about it. In British Raj, several cities were made, even in Princely states, the cities like Lucknow, Hyderabad, Baroda, Mysuru etc started picking up pace. All that was happening because of the effort behind it. The effort of industrialisation. I am just giving an idea of that massive scale & vision. British did not get these industries readymade. They did surveys and started mining, sorted out agriculture revenue, then started looking for cash crops, then shifted to plantations like Tea, Rubber, cotton etc. All that needed effort to pick foreign plants & put them in suitable place of Indian subcontinent. Then of course, irrigation infrastructure for it. When they sense trouble in USA due to civil war, they replicated cotton mills in Ahmedabad and Mumbai. Then princely states copied that model in Indian cities. The workers needed accommodation so group housing called Chawls started. Reclaimed land in Mumbai for easy transport. These efforts were all adding up to increase revenue & income of people. Literally old silk route was abandoned and shifted to sea route by Europeans. Then came independence and we went for another wave of industrialisation. Set steel plants, other PSUs everywhere, made HMT and made tools, tractors, and watched in it. Brought experts from world to make things for us. Took help of Russians, Canadians, French, Americans. It went on for sometime. But then, things started going south. Somewhere we lost the touch. Forgot everything about industrialisation & how it needs to be replicated again & again in different regions. There is no other way. You cannot just put things at a plant and forget about it. You really need to do it repeatedly, in newer regions. So, here we are. Our agriculture will start suffering now (it already is). Why? Because not enough young people are wanting to be a farmer now. Hard to find a guy now who is happy to be just a farmer unlike his ancestors. IT industry has lost the lustre. All these decades and we don’t have any single great software or hardware piece to claim. Only construction sector is largely handling your employment as it is still needing human labour in India. Even that gonna change if we do not wake up even now. So, it must be the number one concern. But sadly, no one cares now.

Dunlop, Hindustan Motors, innumerable jute mills, Boroline, ITC, Britannia, Usha were some of the major industries West Bengal had. But Mahua Moitra cannot think beyond chop shilpo, cut-money shilpo and corruption shilpo.

Everyone frothing at their mouths about the TCS Sexual harassment scandal have remained silent about the sexual harassment malaise in MNCs - as long as it suits them they will remain silent. The MOMENT they can spin this with a religious angle, suddenly everyone cares for the cause for justice of sexual harassment and protecting women. Ask those who are frothing at their mouths if they have all even honestly gone through the POSH workshop that is 'mandatory' (click, click, click, click, end) in their organizations, how many women have been kicked out or the workplace made so hostile - including women piling on to the "You got this onto yourself, you should be silent" and men accused of sexual harassment promoted - MNC ICC's are defunct. MEN go through sexual harassment at workplaces, mostly by other men, and these bros keep ranting homophobic jokes. These new drama artists wont ask the question that is necessary to be asked - Safety for all genders at the workplace. Many men with power are those who WILL abuse it - religion doesn't matter. The same lot that remained silent for convicted rapists like Ram Rahim getting parole, Asaram Bapu getting celeb treatment in temples are now saying they want to save Hindu women. Your temples became 'impure' the day Asaram Bapu and many such rapists stepped in to them - was a 'cleansing ritual' conducted or no?

The Madras Refineries Limited, now @chennaipetro, was promoted jointly by Govt of India, the American Oil Company and National Iran Oil Company. That was in 1965 - seems an impossibility today #IranWar
