Hey pastors, you may want to think strategically about where your instrumentalists are placed on stage as you pray at the end of your sermon. Otherwise this (which is me) could be you.

@lukedsimmons For years, we have used the phrase "soak it up and serve it out" to express the balance needed between "being fed" and serving others. It has led to funny "hot tub" illustrations.

What are some of your sticky sayings that describe the culture of your church or staff? For instance, at Ironwood we have things like: • Soft hearts, steel spines • We take God seriously but not ourselves • Pink spoon people What are some of yours?

@itotallyagreed @bartbarber @bubbasims @dougwmize I don’t really know. That’s why I was asking more seasoned messengers who are knowledgeable of Roberts Rules, have led annual meetings, and who love Jesus. The “call for question” isn’t inherently wrong; I just think it’s used too quickly.

As a frequent parliamentarian for the SC Baptist Convention, I understand the need for the "Call for Question." But it is often used as a strategy to AVOID (rather than end) debate, including what just happened at #sbc26. @bartbarber and @bubbasims can we limit this?

@itotallyagreed @bartbarber @bubbasims I wanted to hear the opposition to the Mohler amendment to see if I overlooked something in my support. We only heard from @dougwmize, a friend from SC. Perhaps just a word from the moderator reminding messengers that time for debate & questions sometimes bring greater unity.

@deptulahasrage The Big 12 can fix this very quickly. Just determine that all Big 12 games in which Sorsby plays are counted as losses.

Disgraceful. Once again, none of the adults acting like adults. Break the most important rule there is, get paid 5 million for doing so, pay no price at all. Lesson learned, you can freely break the rules with zero consequences. Nice job, Kirby.

Pastor Allen getting tossed around for saying this is enough for me to know that my brother nailed it on the head. Here is an excerpt from a paper I wrote: Topical preaching is mainly found among churches that have no reverence for the things of God, and a direct result of eisegesis is building a church based on a high view of man and a low view of God. Entertainment, therefore, often becomes the tool to keep people in the church, and the truth of God is set aside in favor of moral relativism. The late Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (1899- 1981) summarized this concern well: "Light entertainment, easy familiarity, and jocularity are not compatible with a realization of the seriousness of the condition of the souls of all men by nature, the fact that they are lost and in danger of eternal perdition, and their consequent need of salvation. Not only that, such methods cannot bring out the Truth; and our business is to preach the Truth. These methods may affect people psychologically and in other respects, and they may lead to ‘decisions’; but our object is not merely to get decisions, it is to bring people to a knowledge of the Truth." Topical preaching, therefore, prioritizes immediate appeal and emotional engagement over faithful exposition, often reducing the pulpit to a platform for cultural trends rather than a place where God’s Word governs both message and method. As Charles Koller reminds us, “The preacher must lead his people into the text, not away from it.” This does not mean that topical preaching is inherently wrong; one can occasionally preach topically while still maintaining an expository approach. However, this method should not become the normative practice. In contrast, expository preaching seeks to faithfully draw out the meaning of Scripture, allowing God Himself to speak through the text rather than shaping the text to human preferences.

@dougwmize @DJ__Horton Well-said, Doug! I agree wholeheartedly. @DJ_Horton would be very near the bottom of a list of preachers that could be accused of not understanding the task of expository preaching. He does it with excellence weekly, has a doctorate in it, and has taught many others to do it.

@DJ__Horton is a faithful preacher of the text. Like many of us, he’s not afraid to use an illustrative prop to occasionally make a point. Just like the greatest preacher who ever lived, who taught by holding up a coin, a child, and a loaf of bread.

I especially benefited from this sentence: "In the case of well-placed shame for sin the pain ought to be there but it ought not to stay there. If it does, it’s owing to unbelief in the promises of God." Lingering shame is probably what I balked at.

Things ought to start picking up a bit as we get closer to the March Official Visit weekend, but for now, news is sparse. - OT Elijah Hutcheson out of Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School (@RabunGapEagles) in Roanoke, VA picked up an offer. - I added the number of visits each recruit has taken to Clemson has been added - I know Dabo doesn’t offer kids without them visiting, so I’m curious about DL Za’Vion Means. I will try to add specific visits like the March Official Vist or the Dabo’s Camp as those players tend to be the most pursued by the Tigers

One of my favorite traditions. If you send us a Christmas card, we display it. After Christmas it gets added to our ring of cards. If you send us a wedding/graduation/baby announcement, etc. it gets added, too. Once you’re on our ring, it becomes a prayer list for our family.
