@itotallyagreed @RyanGoodroe @bartbarber @dougwmize I understand that point of view as well. Each messenger body is a unique group. There were a large number of first time attendees. The discourse on social media is robust. The deliberation on the floor has been cut short every year. Either way proper order was followed.

@bubbasims @RyanGoodroe @bartbarber @dougwmize I'm of the opposing mind, and one of those that voted to end debate. My position is that we've been debating this for 4 years, and that's enough for me.

As a frequent parliamentarian for the SC Baptist Convention, I understand the need for the "Call for Question." But it is often used as a strategy to AVOID (rather than end) debate, including what just happened at #sbc26. @bartbarber and @bubbasims can we limit this?

@itotallyagreed @RyanGoodroe @bartbarber @dougwmize I believe the rule was used as intended a few times and wished we could have debated some items more thoroughly. The COB will not likely restrict the rule any more than they already have. I think that is appropriate.

@itotallyagreed @RyanGoodroe @bartbarber @dougwmize Now that I am off of the platform, I agree with this assessment. I don’t particularly care for calling the question early. We are a deliberative body and should deliberate important questions. There is a reason that the rule is included in Robert’s and has stood the test of time.

The only reason I can work out in my head is because Urgent request button essentially skips the line, which is why would shouldn't be able to use that button to call the question. But I think the question should only be allowed to be called with that specific button #sbc26

I don't see how pressing the urgent request button and calling the question is out of order but one can press "FOR" or "AGAINST" give their statements, THEN call the question and it be considered in order. Doesn't seem fair to me. #SBC26 #robertsrules

@MToddFletch Same here brother. Doors will open and interims will present themselves. The Lord can use them to fulfill that part of your calling that may never be quenched. I wept my first Easter out of the pulpit.

I’m confident we’re right where the Lord wants us but I wasn’t prepared for how much I would miss the pulpit ministry. And not just preaching, but the whole process, from sermon preparation to delivery. What a privilege it is to preach the Word!
