The sociological/demographic term "Generation X" comes from a 1991 book by Douglas Copeland. That book is not on Kindle or Audible, has 671 reviews on Amazon, and just wants you to leave it alone. #GenX

Today is National Psychotherapy Day! Let's take a moment to recognize the importance of mental health and the role therapists play in promoting well-being. Seeking help is a sign of strength. Together, we can break the stigma and support each other. #Natift.tt/AUDtfcT

@AirKistler I had a supervisor who used to refer to this as being "terminally unique."

Yes, thanks. The "I'm too different/special/alien for anyone but the truly exceptional to help me" pattern. First, I'll acknowledge that outliers and extreme cases do exist, and they often require highly-specialized support. x.com/muddletoes/sta…

Men don't need therapy. They need a solid group of friends they can trust.

@awaisaftab Lived experience + competence + strong rapport + commitment to exploring countertransference = a potentially effective treatment environment, I suppose.

“Lived experience” as a source of knowledge is fallible & subject to bias, but so is clinical experience and empirical research, in different ways & degrees. We collectively stumble towards knowledge through a diversity of standpoints, creative conjecture, and rigorous critique.

@DavidPuder Althea Horner shares principles of object relations theory in compassionate and digestible ways. The title itself speaks volumes.

What therapy books or articles changed the way you practice or gave you foundational insights into the practice of psychotherapy. If possible share one and why…

@TweetATherapist If you're practicing in an area where there are limited therapists, I suppose waitlists are a necessity. If there are other competent therapists or clinics in the area, waitlists serve the ego of the therapist, not the needs of the clients.
