Those “islands” are the Caribbean and span across 7000 islands… meaning that they’re actually not all closer to South America. Also Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana are all Caribbean as-well.

The ridiculous thing about CONCACAF is includes countries that are in South America. Surinam, Guyana, French Guyana. Islands that are off the coast of South America: Trinidad and Tobago, Aruba, Curacao, Grenada. If you can like swim from the coast of South America to your island then you should be in Conmebol If you have a border with Venezuela or Brazil you're in Conmebol.
