May be the best reminder to focus on yourself king. And don’t let the validation — or lack there of — of strangers affect your energy. You’re not a politician, you don’t have to care about people’s votes against you. Focus on the positive folks cheering for your success and go enjoy a sunset

The world wants me to die. My incurable disease diagnosis became global news. It was omnipresent on social media and 1,900 articles were written in a matter of days. Many were saddened. However, joy dominated the commentary. People pointed to schadenfreude, the pleasure of another's failure. Yes, there’s that. There is a special place in people’s hearts that loves to see others fail, especially when that person’s presence threatens their own psychological stability in some way or helps them feel better about themselves. But, if you look over the social media commentary about me, you’ll see that pattern: “he deserved it.” I deserved it because I challenged death. The crowd was running a deeply rooted psychological script that represents the oldest, most deeply embedded stories of human culture. This was the first story ever written down, 4,000 years ago. Gilgamesh sought eternal life after losing someone he loved, only to have the plant of youth stolen by a serpent as he bathed. Leaving him to accept his mortality. Asclepius became so skilled at rejuvenation that he raised the dead. As punishment, Zeus struck him down with a thunderbolt to enforce life and death authority. This is the story of Jesus. Pontius Pilate offered a choice between a thief and the immortalist, and the crowd demanded the execution. People need this story conclusion to keep themselves sane. The challenger must lose and the loss must appear deserved. It’s a shield of self preservation. For if death is inevitable, their existence and that of their loved ones is justified and unavoidable. If death is not inevitable, nothing about their reality is safe. I occupy the same philosophical and archetypal position as Gilgamesh, Asclepius and Jesus. This statement will draw outrage and accusations of blasphemy, hubris and narcissism. Nevertheless, it’s the pattern that has repeated itself for thousands of years. Death has been the omnipresent concern of the human race. It encapsulates our greatest fears, joy and curiosities. The discourse around it changes over time; however, the fundamentals remain unchanged. What’s different about this moment, that is unlike any other moment, is that physical death may no longer be inevitable. What if I didn’t deserve it? And what if I am your ally, and not a threat?

Or—hear me out—skip straight to developing loving relationships (incl non romantic) because that’s what we all deeply seek at the end of the day. Don’t need a 17th hobby or more pictures from a foreign country on my camera roll
Tim Ferriss@tferriss

There is a process that I have used, and still use, to reignite life... Create two timelines—6 months and 12 months—and list up to five things you dream of having (including, but not limited to, material wants: house, car, clothing, etc.), being (be a great cook, be fluent in Chinese, etc.), and doing (visiting Thailand, tracing your roots overseas, racing ostriches, etc.) in that order. If you have difficulty identifying what you want in some categories, as most will, consider what you hate or fear in each and write down the opposite. Do not limit yourself, and do not concern yourself with how these things will be accomplished. For now, it’s unimportant. This is an exercise in reversing repression. Be sure not to judge or fool yourself. If you really want a Ferrari, don’t put down solving world hunger out of guilt. For some, the dream will be fame, for others fortune or prestige. All people have their vices and insecurities. If something will improve your feeling of self-worth, put it down. Drawing a blank? In that case, consider these questions: 1) What would you do, day to day, if you had $100 million in the bank? 2) What would make you most excited to wake up in the morning to another day? Don’t rush—think about it for a few minutes. If still blocked, fill in the five “doing” spots with the following: — one place to visit — one thing to do before you die (a memory of a lifetime) — one thing to do daily — one thing to do weekly — one thing you’ve always wanted to learn What does “being” entail doing? Convert each “being” into a “doing” to make it actionable. Identify an action that would characterize this state of being or a task that would mean you had achieved it. People find it easier to brainstorm “being” first, but this column is just a temporary holding spot for “doing” actions. Here are a few examples: 1) Great cook —> make Christmas dinner without help 2) Fluent in Chinese —> have a five-minute conversation with a Chinese co-worker Determine three steps for each of the dreams in just the 6-month timeline and take the first step now. Define three steps for each dream that will get you closer to its actualization. Set actions—simple, well-defined actions—for now, tomorrow (complete before 11 A.M.) and the day after (again completed before 11 A.M.). Once you have three steps for each of the four goals, complete the three actions in the “now” column. Do it now. Each should be simple enough to do in five minutes or less. If not, rachet it down. If it’s the middle of the night and you can’t call someone, do something else now, such as send an e-mail, and set the call for first thing tomorrow. If the next stage is some form of research, get in touch with someone who knows the answer instead of spending too much time in books or online, which can turn into paralysis by analysis. The best first step, the one I recommend, is finding someone who’s done it and ask for advice on how to do the same.

stating the obvious-to-some, soon-to-be obvious-to-everyone: as the internet gets flooded with AI-generated content we'll have no choice but retreat offline or to other human-verified surfaces. will the "social media" platforms evolve or find that agents / slop monetizes better than humans anyways??

IMO @TheStalwart is on the money with the idea that pretty much all writing will be AI and no one will care. @chamath published a ChatGPT essay that has thousands of likes and @elonmusk commented.

Is it not crazy that we’ve never really had a way for an individual to objectively measure the effectiveness of mental health treatments like cognitive behavioral therapy? It’s all just vibes-based. In 2026. Re-landing rockets from outer space but no one can tell me, objectively, whether therapy is helping on a biological level or not.

No question these guys executed 10/10, but I’m interested in the debate of “to what end”. Tinder was the leader in pack of apps turning romantic relationships into slot machine. Seen as entertainment for users — like casinos or sports gambling — mission achieved. Seen as leading to good relationships, societal benefit — ??? Willingness to pay is easy to measure so it’s easily/rightly (?) celebrated as a measure of success, but is that where we drop responsibility because unintended consequences are simply out of our control?

Going to sound like an ancient millennial here but this is the first summer of generally positive vibes since pre-pandemic? Not yet near peak summer 2016, but approaching it? It’s so much easier feel and generally be optimistic when it’s in the air.

@eladgil Execution just got infinitely easier the last 6 months if you’re paying attention. Having an end state vision and asking the right questions to point the super intelligence towards it is all that matters (for now)

The events of the last 6 months in technology are arguable amongst the most important in human history The tools now increasingly exist for recursive self improvement of models & agents We are likely in very early lift off & exponential Largely unnoticed outside of tech

Alignment will be the word of the year in 2027 / 2028. Wish I knew how to play that call in equities market. Would go as far to say itll be word of the decade, century, millennia? As agents personalize every surface, alignment becomes critical to guard human agency (ironically)

Humans will always exist in the loop of making products and services for other humans. Agents — the best kind — are truth seeking. Humans are the first (intention) and last (fit) mile to ensure human value is driven

@landon20s “Upskilling” takes on a new meaning tho. Upskilling to making people of useful service to each other, community etc. Intelligence based skills are no longer the bone to chase. Meaning, purpose, creativity, art/sport and social contact are the final frontiers of human experience

@blakebyler45 Eh look at it this way. The more embarrassing the loss, the better. Difference between the #4 and # 7 spot in the tournament won’t ultimately matter. Rather these guys (incl Oats) get embarrassed enough to learn to make adjustments ahead of the tournament. All that matters

There is now a massive gap in our ecosystem. The next era of Chicago’s tech needs a refreshed, dedicated, high-impact space where builders, founders, and investors can thrive together. I’m already in active discussions with leading VCs, operators, and founders to make this vision a reality. If you’re interested in shaping what’s next, let’s connect.

@drewmo92_ Often talk w our buddy @jni123 about #GoodLosses… the idea of team getting heart wrenching lesson in the regular season that’s useful when it really matters. Feels like a beautiful ex. here. Will almost assuredly light a fire. It’s so good it couldn’t have been scripted better.

But here’s the thing, we still have plenty of advantages and now that we have a better idea on how to approach the game for efficiently (and competition to fuel motivation) it’s hard to imagine that America doesn’t come roaring back in the AI race.

Is anyone working on onchain verification for ticket re-sales? Stubhub charges a 40+% premium for the privilege of verifying your secondary market ticket purchase and still has a non-trivial failure rate $16B company and seems like an obvious crypto use case
