This needs to be fixed. We now have journeymen college athletes. We know have European professionals taking away opportunities from 18 year old kids. Tired of seeing farewell posts from 27 year olds lamenting the NCAA rejecting their 8th year of college.

There are so many reasons to hate Congress. They use inside information to enrich themselves - and do nothing for the American people.

@educator4ever36 @taxi_1_wire @MrAyton Well - gate revenues have been steady and my Athletic Boosters and teams fundraise effectively. But running an athletic department is very difficult.

I really don’t want to keep this topic going on my timeline, but @MrAyton is not wrong. Instead of jumping to defense, research your public schools’ athletic budgets and learn a bit first.

@RexandEffectz @TweetsbyCoachP Which leads to overuse injuries and burn out in later high school. Playing multiple sports or having multiple passions is so good for good high school athletes.

@TweetsbyCoachP The assumption is bad data. Developmental psychology tells us that by that age children specialize into the things they like the most. It is not that they are burned out, they just want to do other things they enjoy more.

If burnout is one of the leading reasons athletes quit by age 13–14, who is youth sports actually serving?

@educator4ever36 @CoachWoods12 Roughly 50% of my school plays a sport. All must be academically eligible to play. Lots of kids stick with and do well in school because of a coach that gets paid literally $1.00 an hour when all is said and done.

If you think about it, secondary public school sports are the MOST inequitable use of tax payer money. Only select students get access to the sports and yet millions are spent on them, so technically a multi sport star athlete gets a ton of public school dollars spent on them but the kid who loves those same sports but isn’t as talented, whose parents pay the same tax rates, gets zero athletic services.

@educator4ever36 @taxi_1_wire @MrAyton As an athletic director - I can say this is definitely not true everywhere. We rely on gate revenue and fundraising.

@taxi_1_wire @MrAyton Yes! And you’ll find high school athletics is district funded disproportionately to other high school clubs and extra curricular activities.

That was a horrible watch! One of the worst performances I’ve seen; we struggled against a team that’s near the bottom of League 1. Not good enough.

This is my fear….

I am so adamantly opposed to NIL’s for public school athletes. The illegal recruiting is bad enough as is. Now it’ll be done in the wide open. Boosters will pay students money to live in a certain school zone. Teachers will be even more afraid to fail a student and cut off the money flow. It’s a recipe for disaster.
