@timstillman_ Funnily enough, I think the tide changed in this game even though we lost because they thought they had already won the league and Arsenal had the fortitude to know it wasn't done. City weren't humble and slipped on the first hurdle after.

Ultimately, after this game, both teams went away and carried on with exactly who they were. Arsenal ground it out and didn’t concede a goal. City played some good football but slipped up twice away from home. City v Arsenal counted for very little.

@LFCHadouken Havertz, Saka, Odegaard missed half of the season. That's the core of that 91 goal season.

Arsenal GF: 2021/22 - 61. 2022/23 - 88. 2023/24 - 91. 2024/25 - 69. 2025/26 - 69*. Surely surely it can't be sustainable for attackers when the goals are from 30 second corner delays?

Arsenal's attack could genuinely do a Liverpool midfield 2022/23 next season. For a PL winning team it's like they have an attack for a side in 6th or 7th.

@scoutingindoors Pretty expensive signing to replace Norgaard's 60 minutes per season. He'd not get into this team.

Noni for Saka was a very brave sub and worked. Gave us an explosiveness and physicality we’d needed.

HT: Arsenal should be ahead but you always worry when those early chances aren't taken. The White injury threw us off and I understood the intention - but moving Rice to right back has given them encouragement in the middle - encouragement that wasn't there. Probably need to make a change but who is the question.

@timstillman_ The thing is, City missed a 97th minute open goal to beat Forest and somehow drew 1-1 a 0.2 to 7.8 xG game against West Ham (not literally, I am being flippant but the point stands). They can easily lament how they blew things if they come 2nd

@YankeeGunner They took a sledgehammer to a league winning side instead of making sensible tweaks and it has been a disaster. The project is dead, they are already in full swing on needing a rebuild and it's hard to see them spending the same this summer as last.

Isak & Ekitike could have long term challenges staying fit. Salah is off. Konate and vvd are gone. The new fullbacks haven’t worked. Midfield needs investment. Slot’s future maybe uncertain. This LFC “project” could be in serious trouble and require several windows to fix

@jamesbenge completely influenced by the crowd and occasion, the entire notion of var is that it's an objective process to get the right decision. The people in the booth should be a bunch of guys who couldn't care less about football and we never know who they are

I’ve always broadly thought that if the technology exists you might as well use it. But wow it is used so badly in the Eze penalty. And you’d do well to go to three games in a row and not have a moment of VAR-induced weirdness. Keep the tech, fix the protocols.

A good result, a good performance, a bizarre game. I still haven’t had a good view of Eze penalty but the best you could say for Atletico’s is that the application of handball rules is very consistent in UEFA club competition.
