@Ryanpnju @AdamJoseph Fernandes two seasons ago was a somewhat unknown about how he'd crossover from Portugal, there are multiple young talents available for 30-50m some who are even getting world cup experience right now, get two of them in, alongside Tchouameni and Ederson is a much better use

Mateus Fernandes was the 'can't miss' player of this summer & Manchester United missed out on him. Fans won't walk to hear it because losing out on a priority target to a rival sucks, but it was the right decision by the club to not drastically overpay. You can't pay Fernandes £250k when you pay Kobbie Mainoo £120k. Every club interested except Spurs - Real Madrid, PSG, Arsenal, United, rightfully baulked at the fee/wages & were right to do so. The outcome can be a letdown while also being the right call. Elliot Anderson £116m & £300k per week, Fernandes £85m guaranteed & £250k per week & the club were happy to hold firm & not make previous mistakes of overpaying for players & blowing up their wage structure. I get it, despite how disappointing it is. The question now & the balance to strike is landing other players & the club has to prove they are ready to pivot to alternative targets. Not only that, if Premier League proven is no longer feasible because of price inflation, flex your scouting nous & shop abroad. Manchester United obviously have to prove holding their nerve & refusing to overpay is the right call, because priority targets are dropping off the board.

Manchester United were right not to pay £116m for Elliot Anderson & £300k+ p/w & they are right not to pay £85m for Mateus Fernandes & £250k p/w. Not overpaying for players is something the club has to change. If they don't value players at that price they shouldn't & won't be bullied into paying it. This is the correct decision, whether you want to or can swallow it or not. These are changes the club needed to make & they're correctly making them. Fernandes isn't worth the wages when considering the club's wage structure. I understand frustration on time wasted, but I can't believe people think he's worth that. There will be performative outrage, turbo tweeting temper tantrums. I understand frustration of the unknown now & what happens next. That's fair. The double edged sword with these decisions is being able to pivot to alternative targets & find value in the market - the club have to prove they can do that.

@AliceTalksFooty Exactly. We don’t seem to realise any top midfielder will be in this price bracket. And United also don’t seem to realise, we barely have a midfield. I’m starting to get worried now. Can see all roads leading to Baleba and Berger, which is a disaster window

Matues Fernandes is not worth £85m but the market is inflated. Baleba and Alex Scott (our alternatives) will be a similar fee. Personally think United should've paid up and got it done even if the price is a JOKE for a relegated player.

@Czooba Oh Rogers can. He’s miles better. Rashford is the most overrated footballer I’ve ever seen. His football IQ is league one standard. Both clubs he was on loan at didn’t think he was worth the wages. Says a lot

🚨 Manchester United had direct contact with Rashford camp, amicable talks with #MUFC. Man Utd open to welcoming Rashford back to training and Marcus open to start pre-season under Carrick. No guarantee he stays yet with eventual bids to be considered later on but important step to rebuild trust. 🎥 youtu.be/936wR-pBjAU?is…

Unless Manchester United get a no brainer offer, I would be reintegrating Marcus Rashford 100%. If both club & player have worked through whatever they need to & Michael Carrick wants to bring him back into the squad, that's all that matters. Give me the fairytale return for the best LW addition they could realistically make - especially considering where the market is at. I couldn't care less if it bothers people & makes them go into metldown. If club & player can get past it, why can't we do the same?
David Ornstein@David_Ornstein

🚨 Man Utd midfield recruitment plans unaffected by Manuel Ugarte injury. Mateus Fernandes immediate priority + others also being considered. Might impact #MUFC signing left-sided forward though - raises likelihood of Marcus Rashford staying @TheAthleticFC nytimes.com/athletic/74037…

What do we even understand as elite players? You are seeing an inflated market for average players due to one season wonders and their opportunity to raise funds and you term dem elite? Mateus Fernandes, Tonali, Anderson, Rogers, they are all elite players? That means, if Sancho, Antony, Kavin Philips etc were in today's market you will call them elite players and Manchester united should break the bank for them? This club has been a victim of over paying exorbitant prices for average players over the years due to its brand and status in the football world. Clubs have shone their light each time it concerns United, and you think INEOS should keep that tradition going? I don't think any of us know better than they who have done their research, scout and data comparison off and on the pitch. If they are ready to work away from the primary target, be rest assured they have an alternative better than what they have earmarked.

Manchester United Forever
🚨In one of Manchester United’s most important transfer windows in years, INEOS seem determined not to pay “over the odds” while every major rival is spending aggressively. • Elliot Anderson? Too expensive. • Sandro Tonali? Too expensive. • Mateus Fernandes? Reluctant to meet the asking price. Meanwhile: • Man City are ready to spend £120m on Anderson and are monitoring Tonali. • Spurs are willing to pay £100m for Tonali and £85m for Mateus Fernandes. • Liverpool have spent heavily last year and are reportedly ready to go again with Yan Diomande. • Arsenal are prepared to spend around £100m on Morgan Rogers. At some point, if you want elite players, you have to pay elite prices. Manchester United cannot keep watching top targets slip away while rivals strengthen. We will never close the gap on our rivals if we refuse to spend. This is the new reality of football. Look across Europe — clubs like Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are having €150m bids rejected and still remain in the race because they understand that’s the market. Elite players cost elite money. That’s not changing anytime soon. The club needs to wake up — and it needs to happen now.

@AdamJoseph What happens then is we end up with crap players and never win the CL or PL, which is the aim. Problem with this club is it has the mouth of Real Madrid but the mentality & way of doing things of Everton

If Manchester United really have completed due diligence on central midfielders the way we are led to believe they have, then I’m ok with walking away from players once their fee has become not worth it. Very few clubs can outspend United. More can now than ever, but not many. Elliot Anderson’s fee to City is not worth it. Mateus Fernandes’ fee could potentially be, depending on what it is. We shall see on that one. This will not happen on every single deal. If the club has this extensive shortlist, when needed move onto the next & pull the trigger. That approach is a sustainable, smart long term strategy. It worked last summer, it hasn’t for one, maybe two this one. Doesn’t mean it’s broken. History has shown desperation & overpaying doesn’t work, so why revert to that? Fear? Fuck that. No way to operate paying inflated fees & wages. Leads to the same problems the club is still trying to fix. Sets a bad precedent & shows rivals panic sets in when negotiations get tough. This is what all that preparation is supposed to be for, so let’s hope the club is as prepared as they need to be. If so, everything will be fine. Silence & composure in deals is fine, panic is not a strategy.

@utdbrxy You’re missing the point. Who are we going to get?? 😂 cause we need 3 midfielders and we’re already missed out our top 3 targets. So that tells me all roads lead to that idiot from Brighton. Oh and we bought Roy Keane when he just got relegated with Forest. Just saying

Real Madrid, PSG & Man Utd all interested in Mateus Fernandes. None of them willing to pay £85m The team willing to pay is a desperate Spurs team because they've just narrowly escaped relegation 2 years in a row... And I'm seeing Utd fans wanting us to be more like them 🤔

Things are so quiet at this stage of the transfer window & so little info is leaking publicly we're getting recycled news. It's been known all summer Manchester United's 3rd CM signing comes in with Manuel Ugarte leaving. Stop letting people who are designed to outrage you make you angry about the same old shit. That is quite literally why those 'fan channels' exist & how they operate. They feed on that negativity, that outrage. Every year we live in an hour by hour, minute by minute cycle waiting for news. If you let yourself live on an emotional rollercoaster instead of letting the market develop like it always does, good luck to you. It's June 22nd, these are the dog days of the transfer window

If people are losing their shit over a 9 minute Ederson cameo, they need to go outside touch some grass & get themselves a life. He hasn't even signed for Manchester United yet & they're already acting exactly like the kind of doomer gimmick losers 'fans' the club needs less of.
