This report is misleading. Only government oversees public transport. SANTACO affiliation is voluntary. Our call is for operators to collaborate to improve road safety, ethical conduct and customer service through initiatives like the Hlokomela Road Safety Campaign.

In response to the Vanderbijlpark tragedy that claimed the lives of 14 schoolchildren, SANTACO will now take full control of scholar transport. No private vehicles will be allowed to transport schoolchildren. Only taxis registered under SANTACO are legally authorised to do so. Failure to comply will result in immediate impoundment of unauthorised vehicles. Public transport on South African roads remains the mandate of SANTACO.
