Hundreds of experienced NYPD Sergeants are eligible to retire — and current rules are pushing some to leave earlier than planned. Staying longer can impact what they’ve earned in retirement. “It’s the senior people we do not want to lose.” Full article: nypost.com/2026/03/22/us-…

Every day, NYPD members display courageous acts of heroism and put the public's safety before their own. This was most evident in the valor displayed by Sergeant Navarro, Sergeant Montilla, Sergeant LaDuca, Assistant Chief Edwards, and Police Officer Pulgarin, who risked their lives to thwart a terrorist attack on our city. The SBA proudly recognized each of these men at our Union Delegates Meeting this week to give them the recognition they rightfully deserve. #TheFinest #NYPDStrong #KeepingNYCSafe

During St. Patrick’s Day in New York City, the SBA recognizes SSA Patrick McGuire of Patrol Borough Manhattan South as he prepares to retire on March 31 after more than three decades of service. This morning, he marked the parade by blowing the whistle to begin the march up Fifth Avenue — a full-circle moment after attending as a child and working it for years as an NYPD member. He shared the moment with his son, PO Pearse McGuire of the MTS Precinct. “I have been attending the parade since I was a kid… so this is very meaningful to me. It is great to retire on such a high note.” @NYPDPBMS @NYPDnews @NYPDMTS

Sergeants Mora and McGuire of Patrol Borough Manhattan South (@nypdpbms) were recently honored as they retire from the NYPD. Both spent years leading in the borough at the center of it all. Along the way, Sergeant Mora also served his fellow sergeants as an SBA Delegate. We thank them both for their service and leadership in Manhattan South and wish them well in retirement. Joining them in the photo are SBA Directors Sergeant Kenny Jefferson (Manhattan South) and Sergeant James Centeno (Queens North), along with retired Manhattan South SBA Director Artie Smarsch.

The SBA remembers Sergeant Francis “Buddy” Murnane of the Major Case Squad, who passed away from a heart attack on March 15, 2015, while still serving as an active member of the NYPD. On the 11th anniversary of his passing, we remember Sergeant Murnane’s remarkable career. After nearly 42 years of service and nearly 30 years in the rank of Sergeant, he held the distinction of being the Department’s oldest and longest-serving active officer. #NeverForget #FidelisAdMortem

In recognition of #WomensHistoryMonth, the SBA recognizes Sergeant Crystal Pineda, President of the New York Dominican Officers Organization. A graduate of John Jay College, her career in the NYPD reflects a steady progression of service — beginning as a Police Administrative Aide, later serving as a Detective with Gun Violence Suppression, and now as a Sergeant assigned to the Criminal Enterprise Investigation Section. She continues that leadership as President of the New York Dominican Officers Organization while also balancing the role of mother and leader in the NYPD. Serving with pride since August 2017. @nydo_1993 @nypdpea
