The enduring asspain over this game continues to amaze me. I remember being distinctly surprised that they had the balls to flip the script on Whitey Bad and portray Diverse Underclass Commie Revolutionaries as the murderous bloodthirsty thugs they were after spending the game's first half establising their grievances were real.
I wonder how much owes to a memory-hole effect; the overton window started moving so fast it was redshifting by 2016 so people forget that was definitely bucking trends for 2013. I never did get to finish the original Bioshock so I can't compare to it well but IIRC Rapture, the Libertarian Paradise, was *working;* it was an outside-context problem that destroyed it. Really, Bioshock has more in common with Libertarians Move To Mars stories than Culture Has Some Problems stories; sci-fi where the ocean replaces the isolating void of space to make Rapture a tabula-rasa stage. But the surface level gloss is just "lol libertarians bad."
So I can't really tell where the umbrage lies - chuds too stupid to see past surface level would've hated the first game too. Perhaps because Infinite was a sequel; the dazzle of the mechanics was gone, the story/gameplay link was a little looser (the magic powers were explained but not tied into the baseline plot nearly as well,) or maybe chuds are so stupid that they didn't parse lolbertarianism in the first game as political; only things existing in the modern endlessly propagandized racialist milleau scan as "political." A bunch of mind-raped normies playing this only a year before gamergate popped off might've done it?
On the other hand, the story revolves around a father/daughter relationship where the player commits ultraviolence to protect her... and somehow the daughter character generated a revolution in 3DCGI tech, all for the sake of... porn. Lots and lots of porn. Perhaps ~politics~ is of tertiary import concerning the chudmind compared to that? Ugh.
No matter how I slice it I'll never comprehend how that damn game rustled so many jimmies. Truly a sociological phenomena for the ages.

I love how the games biggest, non-pornographic cultural impact was an awakening moment for people that games glazed as the greatest thing ever can just be "meh" and created resentment over "games are art" because of it. How many people were tricked by Adam Sessler's word salad?

in 1995, backpack rapper will i am started a backpack rap group called Black Eyed Peas with a mexican-american and a filipino guy, released two albums, added a blonde female vocalist and moved to pop-rap.
the pop-rap album is recorded over the course of 2001, and is allegedly both interrupted and inspired by 9/11

Each hardware platform had its own characteristics in how colors appeared on CRT televisions, so I always had to be careful when choosing colors.
The Super Famicom offered a wide color palette, but from my personal experience, it was actually quite difficult to create a clean yellow gradient.
For example, Tem’s hair in Illusion of Gaia was built using a sequence like white → yellow → reddish orange → darker red. By letting these colors “pull” on each other, I aimed to keep the saturation high and give it a more vibrant look.
At the same time, for the protagonist in ActRaiser 2, I placed gold-like elements in key areas. Compared to Tem’s bright blond hair, these appear more subdued. I believe I reused darker tones from the skin palette to build those gradients (though my memory might not be perfect—it was over 30 years ago).
As another point of comparison, if we look at the gold dragon boss in ActRaiser 2, its gold should appear more vivid than the player character’s gold elements. This difference was achieved by adjusting saturation and brightness to change the perceived material quality.
All of these color decisions were made while trying to find what looked best on CRT displays.
Brightness and saturation affect how pixel colors interact—sometimes making them appear to shrink or expand. Because of that, I would use darker colors for parts I wanted to appear smaller, and brighter colors for parts I wanted to appear larger.
That said, because each hardware system had its own characteristics, and CRT monitors varied depending on environment and aging, it was impossible to define a single “correct” approach to color and pixel placement.
Even though it was digital work, it often felt like I was creating something very organic and almost “alive.”

@ariga_megamix Was there a special drawing technique to make sure consumer CRT TVs don't blur the sprites? I remember the Crash Bandicoot developers saying they made him orange because the red version would bleed colour on some TV sets of the time.

@ishaantharoor I think that is a key reason the US engages in so many wars. If missiles were dropping on US cities, politicians would be more restrained. The only impact on Americans seems to be about gas prices. The people in the theater have their lives and livelihoods to protect. Unfair.
