@DNicholsAuthor Sometimes, I write a line and think "This is the best thing I've ever written." 24 hours later, I read the SAME line and think "This is awful. What was I thinking?" Hahahaha 😂

I know writers often suffer from imposter syndrome, but do you ever have the opposite? Do you ever read what you wrote and say "Damn, I'm freaking good! This could be a bestseller!" #WritingCommunity

@DNicholsAuthor I don't. But if I did it would be because I wrote something that wasn't a mystery. It could happen.

Hey, fellow writers... How many of you use a pen name and why did you decide to do that? #WritingCommunity

I have been told quietly by folks I know in the industry to stop publicly opposing AI in publishing, because major publishers are using AI critiques to narrow down slush piles. I will not pay a rigged game or apologize for my comments. #amwriting

@SCHostetler So manuscripts are getting fed into the machine without consent.

@SCHostetler That article says that models vastly prefer their own output, so if you know what model an editor is using, if makes sense to at least ask it to rewrite the first 50 pages of your MS. How obscene

@PKMerlott Apparently, individual editors are using different models. Not a standard in-house choice. I was told Claude is an extremely common choice.

@PKMerlott That is a very good question. I would very much like to know the answer to that. Co-pilot told me that a sample of my writing was better than an excerpt from Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express. It was not.

@HexCorpo Make whatever you want with AI. People who prompt a chat bot to make something, then put their name on it, as if they created it make me physically nauseous.

I get that you don’t respect AI work, but saying “you didn’t create it” just erases the ideas, direction, curation, and taste that go into making good AI pieces. New tools have always shown up, old guards have always said “that’s not real art,” and it’s never stopped new movements from happening. I’m just here to experiment and make things, not to pretend we’re in the exact same lane.

1/2 If you flood the internet with writing, music, videos, and pictures you didn't create, you're not an artist. I don't respect you. What you prompted AI to make doesn't deserve its own category of legitimate art.

@KT_Carlisle Queue the ridiculous number of comments accusing you of using AI to make that poster graphic. 🙄

So, I'm thinking about doing a Kickstarter for my next book because it's the only way I can think to afford the cost of editing. And even though there are plenty of people out there who will call me a grifter or advise me to use AI to edit my book or say that editors are an unnecessary part of the process, I'm going to take this chance because: 1. I want to put out a quality book, and I've been doing this long enough to know that that 100% requires an editor. 2. I believe in working with HUMANS and paying HUMANS to do the work that ONLY HUMANS can do well. Anyway, I'm a little scared that no one will show up for it. But if you're like me and you think AI sucks and editors are a valuable and necessary part of the publishing process, I hope you'll help me make this book possible. 🥹

Killing one's darlings, in writing craft, refers to removing parts of a story that you love that aren't serving the story. It originated with Sir Arthur Quiller‑Couch (1916) — In On the Art of Writing: “Whenever you feel an impulse to perpetrate a piece of exceptionally fine writing, obey it—whole-heartedly—and delete it before sending your manuscript to press. Murder your darlings.”

@Wisteraverse The same group of assholes who say this also say, referring to someone with a PhD, "Yeah. But they're not a REAL doctor. Doctor is literally Latin for teacher/educator. Latin for physican is medicus, and the first academic doctorates were theology degrees. So...

Man, this week started off so great and exciting, and then quickly devolved into a dumpster fire. You know it's bad when the mantra getting you through the day is, "You've survived worse."
