@SEcomomist

At home mom, part-time bookkeeper, cheapskate. I'm here b/c I'm trying to figure out why our housing market is stupid.

The Blockbuster nostalgia ignores the fact that it was the normie video store. 300 copies of Independance Day and a sneaky City of God hidden in the Foreign section. You had to go the family owned weird VideoMax behind the deli to get Bad Boy Bubby or Happiness.

@BRIDGETFONDLE_ you are lucky. We had a great 90s couch that needed reupholstering, would have been about $1K for fabric alone. Bought a whole new couch for $1K, but 5 years later it looks like garbage.

@SEcomomist lol I would definitely recommend pricing out the reupholstering first 😂 I have done that and it’s less than what we’d be spending on a new couch !

Also here’s an interior redecorating/design tip for yall, most affordable modern couches are cheap fugly sh*t. Instead of spending 1000 bucks on one of those, find a vintage (think 80’s) couch in good shape for cheap that you like the SHAPE of and get it reupholstered!!!

@AlaskanKate I once had 100% success getting out stains from a black marker that went along for the ride in my laundry by using murphy oil spray cleaner, leaving it to soak until the stain bled, and throwing it all in the wash again.

How can anyone sell second hand children's clothes? All of our have holes in them, permanent stains, or completely washed out colors by the time my kids are done with them

@1goodtern The point of MAiD isn't to make suicide possible, it's to make it socially acceptable. From there, it is a short step to make it socially expected and vulnerable populations will suffer.

I've written three threads about this and deleted each of them. Why? Because assisted dying is not a hill I want to die on, but I keep coming back to one thought: If you create a job to assist people dying, the people who apply for that job want to help people die.

MUST READ. @CatherineFrazee just published a paper documenting her experiences during her 2-yr engagement w the Canadian Association of MAiD Assessors and Providers [CAMAP]. It is damning. Plausible deniability is off-the-table for those at helm of MAID. cjds.uwaterloo.ca/index.php/cjds…

@AniseNot solution that worked for me: kids each own only about a week's worth of clothes. Easier to keep track of, less to put away, and if you keep laundry day to a specific day and don't do it sooner, they're gonna rifle through the hamper and fish out clean items that got in there.

How does no one see that a regular level of laundry is perfectly reasonable for me to expect every week? And the discovery of excessive amounts of clean clothes in the laundry is the actual problem? And that my post was about discovering the source of this problem? And that now that opens the door to a solution to this problem?? How do people not understand the nature of that post 🤔

@globeandmail Is now the time to remind everyone that Canada Child Benefit clawback begins at a HOUSEHOLD income of $34,863, while OAS clawback begins at an individual income of $93,454 ?

This is something I don't hear about enough in the dating discourse. Some women will date a man for 3, 5, 7 years and then just discard him based on "I didn't feel it was a fit." or some other subjective justification. The man loses everything, she walks away with all the benefit. How are men supposed to date well in an atmosphere where such catastrophic loss is considered normal? youtube.com/watch?v=we36kw…

My kid bought herself a takeout wrap for lunch, and then gave it to a homeless guy, and my brother just showed up at our house with a free pizza. I guess karma is real.

@AnthropoceneMe1 @cybelethebest Yes, in terms of logistical ease (world is structured for families of 4), but I think in terms of learning how to be a good parent (both as a parent, and as a kid being exposed to young kids) 2 kids is not enough and that's why we have a whole world of parents who are struggling.

This site is a bubble, most people do not want 4+ kids. Setting aside whether or not they *should*, they do not.

@StephenPunwasi Families are also fleeing Montreal to suburbs like Laval, where construction is booming. Families want cars, well maintained roads, ample parking, and fluid traffic. It really boils down to cities hating people who drive cars (families).

fyi 🇨🇦, Toronto is dying. School board to cut 289 teachers, 5,000 fewer kids expected. TO now has more seniors than kids, a problem that takes at least a generation to fix. Politicians are spending astronomical amounts of taxpayer cash to turn TO into something no one wants.

My main frustration these days is convincing Canadians that things are *not* working as intended and they have to pay attention to politics for the first time in their lives.

My midwife told me today that *ANECDOTALLY* women who eat lots of eggs during pregnancy tend to have waters break later in labor. They aren’t my favorite, but I am going to start eggmaxxing.
