Best Wishes to the New Prime Minister and Cabinet of ministers I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Dr. @Dr_HariniA, who has taken the oath as Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. I also warmly congratulate the new Cabinet that has been sworn in, in accordance with the mandate given to Hon. President @anuradisanayake , by a majority of people in this election. In the 2010 presidential election, alongside me, you stood for A" Believable change," and during the 2010 parliamentary election, while I was imprisoned, you supported me with your utmost strength. I pray you all receive the same strength and courage to rebuild this nation from its current challenges. I still dream of a country we aspired to build together, a disciplined country free from corruption and mismanagement, with a stable economy. I remain committed to working tirelessly for this vision, which is also the prayer of the vast majority of people in this country. I invite all like minded people to join me in my Presidential Campaign. I have sacrificed a lot to save this country from terrorism. I gave a promise to my fellow Sri Lankans that I will not let another Army Commander inherit the war and that I will crush terrorism, I am glad I was able to deliver on my promise to the nation. Today my promise to Sri Lankans is that as the President of Sri Lanka, I will #CrushCorruption and save Sri Lanka from a corrupt political system and corrupt politicians. If I was able to defeat terrorism, then defeating corrupt politicians and a corrupt political system is well within my capabilities. I invite all leaders to transcend party politics and join me in my journey, let's work together to build a better, prosperous, and resilient Sri Lanka.

I sat down for a chat with @KishaniAlanki recently where I expressed my views on @sajithpremadasa leadership of the @sjbsrilanka and my disagreement with him, when he refused to take over the Prime Ministership when it was offered to him since he was the opposition leader. It is my belief that when the country is facing a crisis, and you're invited to take over, you should step up and take on the responsibility without shying away by giving various excuses.

#WATCH | Delhi: On his announcement of running for upcoming Presidential Elections in Sri Lanka, Former Sri Lankan Army Chief, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka says, "I came into politics soon after the army which was commanded by me ended up the terrorism in Sri Lanka...We were facing a lot of difficulties towards the latter stage of the war, administrative issues, no facilities for soldiers. The government was not interested in looking after those aspects...There was corruption building up in the government circles. The politicians knew how to look into the issues of the civilians and establish permanent peace in the country. But they were not interested in it...I will ensure that the people are not being taken on a ride and the government will not continue to cheat and betray the people...The politics in the country as a whole is very corrupt and not in the interests of the country. The politicians have no vision...We have to change the political nature of the country and ensure that we bring development, stop corruption and nepotism...I don't see any other leader who has a vision to do all that. I will come to the forefront to tell the people about the weak areas and try to guide them..."
