My nana ji was an engineer in railways. This resulted in my mom spending significant part of her childhood in Kolkata during 60s. In early 2010s, we were in Kolkata for shaddi shopping and my mom saw one of these buses. She spoke fondly about them so we decided to board one for the fun of it. Instead of normal seats facing the direction of the bus, this bus we boarded had a bench running along the length of the bus. Think of metro car where there are seats running along the car while there is ample space to stand The strike tire was weird to me but my mom was nostalgic- she mentioned it is still same as her childhood, same wooden bench where you hold onto your dear life! These buses need an upgrade!

But later government took a decision to increase the human presence , lot of retired veterans (Gorkhas) , Chakmas were settled to counter China/ Myanmar and now it has a huge township and presence of Army. It also met with resistance from local tribals called Gobins initially but now everyone lives in peaceful coexistence making it a strategic win for India in tense borders state. Our lands are precious so are our tribals, and they need military presence /better infrastructure in border states to safeguard nation it might come with a cost of environmental hazards. #nicobar
