I'm a boomer. I NEVER expected my parents to give me anything. I worked my way through college. I honored them both their entire lives. I have adult children. They are estranged from me because I didn't give them more money. Don't give me "boomers will not see Heaven". It's the lazy and complainers that cause trouble.

@IAmConfusionBru @SFBlackArchive According to STO’s fanfic collaborators, Admiral Ross found out about Tolian Soran’s artificial supernova research and tried to deploy the tactic at Wolf 359. Unfortunately, it failed. x.com/Wolf359Project…

#Wolf359OnThisDay The Borg have arrived at Wolf 359. The Cube comes to a halt directly above the USS Bonestell the fleet holds its breath as Admiral Hanson enacts this desperate plan.

@SFBlackArchive In the battle of Wolf 359 assignment in Star Trek online, it's the first ship to go, it got almost immediately cut in two by the Cube, I think you are correct, Locutus knew exactly what its purpose was so he neutralized it fast

#AdminsThoughts: Why was the USS Bonestell NCC-31600 At Wolf 359? The Oberth Class USS Bonestell was briefly seen at Wolf 359 (through the viewports on the USS Saratoga). It's kind of odd Starfleet would send of it's "weakest" starships to take on an alien ship that could withstand a Galaxy-Class attack, right? Well I think the Bonestell was there for a technical reason. The class was known for its extremely powerful sensor and communication arrays. The vessel would there for be perfect for operations monitoring and communication relaying. Kind of like a modern day awacs aircraft being used in skies of Today's modern wars. This communication boosting might have been powerful enough to keep ship to ship communications going. Breaching the Borg interference that created communication issues from the site of the battle.

@yobinokuuki @FeedMe_Katsudon To elaborate, they are spelling variants in writing, all pronounced the same as tā (ㄊㄚ) in speech 他 - general mortal (obsolete/default) or male mortal 她 - female mortal 牠 - animal (obsolete in China) 它 - inanimate object or animal 祂 - deity

@FeedMe_Katsudon In Chinese, genered pronouns weren't invented until early 20th century when translators got fed up with not being able to convey the gendered pronouns used in other languages. For that reason, the Chinese male pronoun is also the genderless pronoun. :3

PSA to the English speakers: Not all languages use or frequently use gendered pronouns. to misgender on purpose is offensive, yes, however sometimes it has to do with language barriers. So don't suddenly cancel someone for using the wrong pronouns, it can be language barriers.
뱃자/Vatza@hazbin_vatza

I'm Korean, and in Korean we don't use well gendered pronouns like "he" or "she." So sometimes people ask me, "Why did you refer to Charlie as 'he'?" It's just a translation issue. Before asking, I wish people would realize I'm coming from a non-English language context-translators often default to "he" for a name like Charlie, which is usually seen as a male name.

@This_Redacted @RhythmRogue415 @TheLaurenChen You are part of the problem. 95% of the time I never meet fellow Taiwanese who constantly talk about women of other races like objects. But everywhere I look online about Asian countries, there are always gwai lou talking about Asian women like they're not in the room.

@hazbin_vatza As a native speaker of Chinese, I understand this perspective because he/she/it are all homophones in modern Standard Mandarin speech, and my culture also dictates different spelling variants in writing for animals, inanimate objects, and gods.

@ArmiVard @hazbin_vatza "they are" is grammatically plural in general U.S. English but has long been used for an ambiguous singular subject, now evolved for non-binary gender identities, thus mandating more contextual analysis by speakers and readers. Korean has no plurality in verbs, but Spanish does.

@ArmiVard @hazbin_vatza Well, consider that English pronouns as sentence subjects have to be matched with an appropriate verb inflection together conveying grammatical singularity or plurality. "I am" versus "we are" "thou art" (abolished) versus "you are" versus "y'all are" (evolved)

@yamatonottrans @FeedMe_Katsudon As another Chinese speaker, I should also clarify that the meaning is conveyed as a spelling variant in writing. In speaking, 他 for male mortals or general mortals, 她 for female mortals, 祂 for deities, 牠 for animals, 它 for inanimate objects are all homophones as tā (ㄊㄚ).

My son’s now ex girlfriend asked him for $500. I took the phone and asked to speak to her mom. My son was confused bc he didn’t even have $500, and he definitely didn’t understand why I was upset. Her mom gets on the phone and says, “What’s wrong with him giving my daughter $500? Y’all got money.” I calmly told her, “Respectfully, you’re going to have to teach your daughter how to monetize her 🐱on someone else bc I’m raising my sons in an anti-tricking household.

When I was in college Palantir did a recruitment presentation for students, and at one point a student asked about civil liberties and the Palantir guys said “oh don’t worry we have a Civil Liberties Team that takes care of that” and another student asked “so what happens if that team finds something the company is doing is violating civil liberties” and the lead Palantir guy just laughed out loud.
Peter Todd@Petertodd

One day, all the Palantir haters will have to come to grips with the reality that the disinformation surrounding the company was deliberately created by our adversaries who feared its potential to strengthen and embolden the ability of free and democratic societies.

@yuriwalterwhite @Owo_G0d No, you are correct. Only the Windblade story dropped the term “sparkling” for a Transformer generically born out of a specific Titan’s hotspot. The MTMTE Christmas special impostor protoform was indeed just a collective of scraplets who became Whirl’s pets.

@luxemiaa You're 30, not a generation older. This isn't mentorship. You cast yourself as the exhausted wise guide in a film where he's a prop. He bought a musical ticket. You wrote a redemption arc about it. He doesn't know he's in your movie.

We hired a 19 year old at my work and my god, it is something awful to watch this kid learn about living in the real world for the first time. I try to celebrate his wins and support him when he does a good job because you can literally see the cracks in his worldview as the days pass. Like, I’m a cynical old bitch at 30, and I try to keep that cynicism away when I talk to him. Is this like one hundredth of what parenting is like? He likes musicals and he can afford to see his first musical this weekend. I cheered for him. He is my work son

Horror in Dubai. A 24 year old American female airline worker in Dubai has been arrested. Dubai police installed a surveillance tool on her phone. Without her consent. They found her sharing an image of a burning building with her mother. So they set a trap. They pretended to be her office staff and called her in for a meeting yesterday. When she arrived, she was arrested. 2 years in jail. That spying tool is installed on every foreigner's device in Dubai. That means the Dubai Police are watching everything foreigners send to their families. Every message. Every photo. Every video. Including the most intimate moments. Dubai has denied her a lawyer.
