*Background & Repatriation travel to Syria:
Authorities allege that in 2014, Raad willingly traveled from her home in Young, NSW, to Syria to join her husband, Muhammad Zahab.
*ISIS Ties: Her husband, Muhammad Zahab, was a high-ranking Australian Islamic State militant who was killed in 2018.
*Time in Syria: Raad lived in the Al Roj internally displaced persons camp in northeast Syria for 3 years before her repatriation in 2022.
*Return to Australia:
She was part of a group of 4 women & 13 children repatriated by the ALBANESE government in October 2022.
*Legal Proceedings/Arrest:
In January 2023, following a joint investigation by NSW Police & the Australian Federal Police (AFP), Raad was arrested & charged with intentionally entering or remaining in a declared area, which is a foreign area controlled by ISIS.
*Guilty Plea:
In May 2024, she pleaded guilty to this charge.
*Sentencing/Outcome:
In June 2024, she was sentenced. It was reported she avoided a custodial sentence & was given a bond for good behaviour.
