A 38-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death in Vizhinjam following a late-night altercation at a bar on Tuesday. The victim, Suman (38), who had been staying on rent in Thiruvallam, was attacked after a dispute inside a bar at around 11 pm. He and others had arrived at the bar as part of Vishu celebrations. During drinking, an argument broke out. After stepping out of the bar, Suman was allegedly attacked by a group of three men. He sustained severe head injuries and was later found unconscious on the road. Vizhinjam police reached the spot and shifted him to hospital, but he could not be saved. The assault was described as extremely violent. Video footage shows the group repeatedly kicking Suman on the chest and face, grabbing his neck and choking him, and continuously striking his head. The visuals were reportedly recorded by a person travelling in a car passing through the road. During the attack, one of the assailants is heard telling others, “Take video, take video...”, while the victim’s face was being smashed. Police have taken four people into custody in connection with the incident. Those identified include Achu S, Babu, Soorajith, and Anandu Krishnaprasad. Suman’s body remains in hospital. Senior officers, including the Fort Assistant Commissioner, visited the scene. Police have also examined CCTV footage from the bar as part of the investigation.
