Majority of play store icons are static. It’s very rare that any new icons would be layered like the chess icon for example. They don’t have the proper resources to even get started
In the second video you see the iTunes U icon invert colors from white to orange to contrast with the dark icon background. How would Samsung manage that with static icons?
You can make the argument that Samsung can just utilize the Material You simple icons but not every app supports it fully yet and it also looks so much worse than the iOS dark themed icons.

this stuff feels like they have zero confidence in their own design anymore and it leads to just half-assed shit.
