President Abdirahman Irro Leads High-Level Delegation on Official State Visit to the State of Qatar
His Excellency Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro), President of the Republic of Somaliland, today, 28 June 2025, departed the capital Hargeisa on a historic official visit to the State of Qatar, at the invitation of the Qatari Government.
The visit, which will span several days, marks a new chapter in Somaliland’s expanding diplomatic engagement across the Gulf region and the wider international sphere.
This is the first time in the nation’s history that a sitting President of the Republic of Somaliland has conducted an official visit to the State of Qatar — a development that underscores both the growing recognition of Somaliland’s principled foreign policy and the maturing of its regional partnerships. The President and his delegation departed aboard a private aircraft designated for the visit.
His Excellency is accompanied by a senior delegation comprising the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Minister of Interior and National Security, the Minister of the Presidency, the Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, the President’s Economic Advisor, and the Chief of Staff at the Presidential Office.
While in Doha, the President will engage in substantive high-level discussions with senior leaders of the Qatari Government. The talks will focus on shared strategic priorities, including maritime security in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, regional peacebuilding efforts across the Horn of Africa, economic and infrastructure cooperation, and deeper collaboration in investment, energy, education, and sustainable development.
This diplomatic mission reflects the Republic of Somaliland’s deliberate and forward-facing foreign policy — rooted in sovereignty, stability, and strategic dialogue. Under the leadership of President Abdirahman Irro, Somaliland continues to assert itself as a credible, constructive, and committed actor on the international stage — willing to engage, ready to lead, and prepared to forge new pathways for prosperity and peace in the region.
At its core, this visit reaffirms Somaliland’s conviction that recognition is not merely claimed — it is earned through vision, responsibility, and enduring contribution to global stability.

Somaliland: President Abdirahman Irro Attends National Children’s Summit
His Excellency the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro), today presided over the inaugural National Children’s Summit of Somaliland — a landmark event convened to coincide with the commemoration of the Day of the African Child, observed annually on 16 June.
This unprecedented gathering — the first of its kind in Somaliland’s history — was meticulously organized by the Ministry of Employment, Social Affairs and Family, in close partnership with national institutions and international development partners. The summit represents a pivotal moment in Somaliland’s journey toward a more inclusive, rights-based, and child-focused governance framework.
In his remarks, President Abdirhman Irro spoke with clarity and conviction about the moral and strategic imperative of protecting and empowering the nation’s youngest citizens. He described the summit not merely as a ceremonial occasion, but as a call to action — a collective reckoning with the obligations of the state, society, and individual citizens to ensure that every child in Somaliland is afforded the dignity, safety, and opportunity they deserve.
“This is not charity; it is justice. The protection and nurturing of our children is not only a sacred religious duty and a constitutional mandate — it is the very essence of our national character,” the President declared.
He warned that any ambition for peace, prosperity, or democratic resilience will remain hollow if the basic rights of children — particularly to education, healthcare, and adequate nutrition — are neglected. These, he stressed, are not privileges to be rationed, but rights to be fulfilled without compromise.
“True national transformation is impossible without placing the child at the heart of our policies, budgets, and political will. A nation that sidelines its children has already forsaken its future,” President Irro emphasized.
In a poignant message directed to Somaliland’s children, the President concluded:
“To the children of the Republic of Somaliland: you are not a distant hope — you are a vibrant, living force. This government sees you, listens to you, and stands unwaveringly beside you. Your dreams will not be postponed, your voices will not be silenced. You are not only the future of Somaliland — you are its present. Together, we build with you, not after you.”
The summit concluded with a renewed national pledge to advance policies that uphold the full spectrum of child rights — from legal protections to social investments — reinforcing Somaliland’s position as a principled and forward-looking democracy in the Horn of Africa.
