Accounts change names identity/purpose overnight for malicious goals. We studied misleading repurposing before, found 100k repurposed accs
Interestingly X only now account for this vulnerability yet it still doesn't show the old names

One of the many problems of Twitter is scientifically documented🙃Our paper "Misleading Repurposing on Twitter" was accepted to @ICWSM We uncover, analyze and provide a detection method for the repurposing of accounts, some later became trolls. We detected 106k of such accounts!

In our new ICWSM25 paper "Cross-Partisan Interactions on Twitter" we analyzed 3M replies from 2020 and find that 34% were directed to users from opposite political alignment. However these interactions are more likely to be toxic🧵
