Functional and phylogenetic diversity in plant communities are decoupled - check our new study just out in @NatureEcoEvo 🍃🍀🌸🍁🍂🌴🌳🌸🌼🪻#plants #vegetation #ecology #plantecology #communityassembly

🌳 New findings 🌳 Phylogenetic diversity cannot be used as a proxy for functional diversity in vascular plant communities 🌲🌳🌴🌵🌱🍀🌾🌼 We used the #sPlot database & found a pronounced decoupling between phylogenetic & functional diversity 🧪🌐🌏🍁 shorturl.at/Bf5IK

🦆 Waterfowl don’t feel at home in Doñana anymore ☹ New research by @ebdonana revealed that 9 out of 15 analysed waterfowl species have declined over the last 40 years in the Doñana National Park. This is due to the loss of flooded areas in the marshes of the park. Data shows that human activity and climate change have drastically altered this wetland, which is one of the most important wintering hot spots for migratory birds. Artificially flooded ecosystems, such as rice fields, or salt marshes cannot offset the negative effects of the degradation. When Doñana suffers, it is not just a regional issue but affects birds across Europe. This is a reminder that we need to preserve this wetland before the damage becomes irreversible. #DoñanaSeExtingue
