Thrilled to be training in the department where I first fell in love with pathology, with the mentors who will continue to shape me into the pathologist I hope to be someday @UVA_Pathology 🧡💙

@olsonplanner Every medical school interview day had a session with the financial aid office that invariably included something to the effect of: “Don’t worry about affording medical school—you can get PSLF.”

I do not believe PSLF will go away for current borrowers. This is hypothetical for pre-meds and younger. What’s really sobering about the PSLF discussion is that its existence has just further masked that medical schools are a bunch of greedy people who figured out they can sell their standardized tests for $400,000 a pop. So no, in this hypothetical future, not everyone with the desire and ability can be a doctor. If you live here, you or your folks will have to be loaded. Or you’ll be inordinately inclined to apply into a high paying specialty. Peds, ID and primary care - it’ll only draw people who can pay cash for tuition. 🤷🏼‍♂️

If PSLF goes away for new borrowers, this will be the impact on physicians and what physician medicine will look like:

@leon_metlay Are there any good ways to distinguish in vivo vs ex vivo sickling in placentas? Or do you just look for other changes of malperfusion?

Mother has SS trait. Sickling probably occurred while the unfixed placenta got hypoxic sitting in the bucket, awaiting transport to the lab. I emphasize to learners that they must distinguish "hemoglobin pink" from "eosin pink."

I just noticed how much these resemble Giardia. Just the wrong shade of pink, and the wrong location. Or, maybe my imagination is just too active today. x40
