Musk thwarted what might have been a decisive military operation to shorten the Russian war against Ukraine, save who knows how many lives, and put an end to the Russian food blockade of poor countries in Africa and Asia. All while a US government contractor.

@chuckdegroat The best way to "reduce the wobbliness" is to acknowledge that there is no ladder. Everyone is grounded.

If you’re a pastor (or any leader!) who thinks that climbing the ladder to a larger church or senior leadership or a book deal will take that buzzing anxiety away, know this: The ladder only gets more wobbly the higher you climb.

@Sumansiva @gregisenberg I think it’s more a rate of change issue. We’ve never had this much disruption occur this rapidly. New jobs emerged after past disruptions but over a longer time horizon. Don’t think that new jobs will be able to emerge at the rate of them being taken away.

@gregisenberg Just read this thread. You can’t actually believe that all 85% of these writers will be fine. The rejoice thing is ridiculous. This will happen en masse and tons of people will lose their jobs. The whole “new jobs will emerge argument” does not hold water IMO given scale.

In a 10-way competition for America's best food city, New Orleans, Los Angeles and New York City would all contend. I'd throw Portland and San Francisco in too, especially if the East Bay counts. Where else?

It is an interesting question. Obviously, it has to be rephrased: In a comparison of outcomes for 1000 boys raised by two lesbian mothers and 1000 raised by a single mother, which group would have better outcomes (to be defined)? I have no idea what the answer would be. Truly.
Ghost46@MutaCimex

@charlesmurray This is off topic however: I am an A Level sociology student and we have been studying some of your work in my class I am curious to your opinion on a question we thought of: Would you rather a male child be raised by two lesbian mothers or a single mother?

For the believer, prayer isn’t a substitute for action, it’s a prerequisite for action. It grounds us before we serve others. It grounds us before we speak in the public square. Prayer helps us grieve, prayer helps us hope, and prayer helps us act: nytimes.com/2023/03/29/opi…

@LauraRbnsn We tend to be in sin management (self-focused) or sin tracking (others focused) mode most of the time instead of living out of an abundance of grace. We misunderstand grace and don't let the gift of grace penetrate to an emotional level.

What do you think it is about the sentiment "love the sinner, hate the sin" that rings so hollow with people? Is it the failure for that kind of love to actually feel like love at all, or is it other people's comfort with calling other people sinners?

@ahc How to feel emotions (diff than expressing emotions). When disobeying rules is acceptable/wise and where to draw that line. Developing an opinion on what activity it would like to engage in (i.e. whether it wants to play chess or create art).

Suppose AI can be trained to do anything a human can be trained to do. (Plausible in symbolic work, if not other kinds.) Suppose also cost of AI <<< cost of human labor. Then AI will replace humans—on things we can train. What traits, qualities, activities CANNOT be trained?
