Physicians for Human Rights (PHRI) have been informed that the Israeli military has no record of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiyyah, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, who was reportedly arrested by the occupation forces on December 27, 2024.
Despite video evidence showing his arrest, the Israeli military has denied any record of his detention. PHRI has filed a petition with the Israeli High Court of Justice demanding his immediate disclosure. Dr. Abu Safiya is now considered a victim of enforced disappearance, at risk of torture and ill-treatment.

@OsaidesserMD @IUGAZA May God give you strength brother Osaid. The medical community’s silence on the incessant attacks on healthcare in Gaza is unforgivable.

Shortly after the @WHO-led mission to Kamal Adwan Hospital yesterday, the facility's third floor was reportedly hit again, injuring six children who are patients there. One child sustained a critical injury. Water tanks were damaged. Heavy bombardment persisted very close to the hospital, including when WHO was delivering aid.
It is appalling that hospitals in #Gaza continue to be attacked, patients continue to be harmed, and health workers and humanitarians continue to work under life-threatening conditions.

We have received an extremely concerning report that the Sheikh Radwan primary health care centre in northern #Gaza was struck today while parents were bringing their children to the life-saving #polio vaccination in an area where a humanitarian pause was agreed to allow vaccination to proceed. Six people, including four children, were injured.
A @WHO team was at the site just before. This attack, during humanitarian pause, jeopardises the sanctity of health protection for children and may deter parents from bringing their children for vaccination.
These vital humanitarian-area-specific pauses must be absolutely respected. Ceasefire!

This really needs to be amplified:
For a week, there is only one doctor, a pediatrician, left at the Kamal Odwan Hospital in north Gaza after the Israeli forces expelled all doctors, and even cleaners, from the hospital. Some have been abducted.
My mother-in-law is staying at the hospital to be close to members of her family that survived the air strike two days ago. The only thing she could do has been to keep flies away. The floor is covered with blood and dirt. Not a clean inch to lie or sit. And there is no water. There are no shrouds.

"#Gaza is the real-world embodiment of hell on earth for its one million children. And it’s getting worse, day by day, as we see the horrific impact of the daily airstrikes and military operations on Palestinian children." - @1jameselder, @UNICEF

One year into the Palestinian genocide, Dr. Khaled Abou El Fadl’s voice rises above the rest as a consistent advocate of justice, morality and ethics. His scholarship is exemplified in the latest book published by UsuliPress. @usuliinstitute

Published in the Lancet. It can be estimated 186,000 or more have died in Gaza. That is 7.9% of the population. “Documenting the true scale is crucial for ensuring historical accountability and acknowledging the full cost of the war.” thelancet.com/journals/lance…

Burnout & moral injury in medicine have affected so many health care workers. As a mid-career physician, here’s what I’ve learned to combat it - I hope others find it to be helpful.

@fumikochino Wishing you a safe move! I suggest covering your precious plants with a sheet. I’ve sadly had plants harmed by the sun coming in through the windows before!

We are in a car full of plants. 🌱 🚗🧭 Phase one of our move includes driving plants to Durham, unloading our storage unit, and Neil driving random stuff plus plants from Durham to Houston in a UHaul. 📦🚛 #weekendsNotInNYC [we are only able to move less than half of my plants]

Yesterday @MSF published a comprehensive report looking at silent killings Gaza - meaning individuals who have succumbed to health conditions that are entirely preventable.🧵

Once the largest hospital in southern Gaza, Nasser hospital is yet another medical facility that no longer has the capacity to treat patients due to raids and attacks by Israeli Forces.

After two days of being denied entry into the Nasser Medical Complex in #Gaza, yesterday @WHO and partners were allowed to go inside to assess the patients. As a result, lifesaving medical referral of 14 critical patients was facilitated. Two patients needed continuous manual ventilation throughout their journey.
9 patients are now receiving care in the European Gaza, International Medical Corps, UAE and Indonesia field hospitals, and 5 patients are in Al-Aqsa hospital.
There are still more than 180 patients and 15 doctors and nurses inside Nasser.
The hospital is still experiencing an acute shortage of food, basic medical supplies, and oxygen. There is no tap water and no electricity, except a backup generator maintaining some lifesaving machines.
WHO, @PalestineRCS, @UNOCHA and other partners need sustained and safe access to continue lifesaving referrals for all patients in need of urgent care.
