It's a while since I rode the Stagecoach 17 bus from Horsham to Brighton. We have a driver under guidance today but he is making good progress, helped by the removal of the tedious loop around Partridge Green from this journey.

@BusAndTrainUser I used to know a DfT person who knew exactly what the buses were like in her home town, but used to walk rather than pay Arriva's fares.

I am travelling from Reading to High Wycombe with Carousel Buses. The ride is pleasant but to say there is plenty of time is a wild understatement. I will watch for a kerb crawling warning letter in the post.

A real world moment from Crawley. The raising of the £2 fare cap meant that a weekly ticket (£25.65) made sense for the man in front of me. He couldn't afford to pay cash for it, so bought it with his credit card.

Interesting to see the evolution of seasonal operations on my local Stagecoach buses (Guildford). Sunday service on Boxing Day but no service on New Year's Day. Traditional early finish on Christmas Eve and NYE, although I predict the town will be super busy.

@JohnPockett Thanks John. I don't mind Leighton, but he's not my favourite. I trust all is well with you.

@SSalmonexCPT in case you didn't know. Leighton, my least favourite church music composer from the past 150 years! I hope everyone & everything are are well.

@RideoutTim @kelvmackenzie My mother died in the house. If the proceeds from the sale of houses are exempt from IHT I need to have a stern word with the solicitor who administered the estate. CGT was levied on the difference between the probate valuation and the price eventually realised. No time limits.

@SSalmonexCPT @kelvmackenzie Presumably because the Estate didn't sell it and settle the Inheritance Tax within the time limits. You are not normally due CGT and IHT on the Principal Residence. Had she in effect moved into a care home for many years?

@RideoutTim @kelvmackenzie They do when a generation dies out. On top of inheritance tax. CGT was due on the change in value of my late mother's house until the estate sold it.

It could be the 60s and the heyday of the Round the Island coach tour here on Ryde Esplanade today. Living the dream.

@thomasforth Good idea. There'll be VAT on the charge and the Government will have all of that (minus any VAT paid on inputs) thank you.

You know me. All about growing North England's economy. We've got a railway station at Leeds with a fast flowing diverted rover underneath it. What if we do a big event and people can pay £20 to go through it on big inflatables. Agree a deal with HMG to keep a portion of tax too.

@transportgovuk @LouHaigh Not one “walking” or “cycling”. We don’t need to take the train or bus for the one mile school run or to get a pint of milk down the shop. What about the local > 5 miles journey?

@SSalmonexCPT Those Solos are predominantly for SEN School contracts, which is what they were ordered and spec’d for. They are used on community routes such as the 32 in between schools. The blinds were designed for use on SEN, but I suspect they’re meant to be removed whilst in public service

@creatingdesire The same person who failed to check whether the top anchor point of the 3 point belt would stick into passengers' shoulders. I guess they are contractually required for child passengers, who probably have no issues.

The bus I am travelling on is late. The driver has made up some time by leaving pass-waving pensioners at stops. They don't look happy. Never mind. There's one twenty minutes behind.

Iceland has no army, a booming economy, some of the cleanest water and air anywhere in the World, violent crime is rare, one of the lowest crime rates in the world, and they even jailed their corrupt bankers. Why do you think Iceland is doing so well? 🇮🇸
