Golazo on a 20+ yard half-volley in the 30th minute by M.A. Vignola breaks a 203-minute scoreless streak for the Thorns and they lead 1-0 at halftime. Vignola's first for Portland since being acquired last September. #baonpdx #nwsl

About 45 minutes from kick for @ThornsFC hosting @wearebayfc at Providence Park. Thorns looking to get back into 2nd place in the table after a loss and draw in their last 2, but they’ll have to do it without Olivia Moultrie and Reilyn Turner. #baonpdx #nwsl

1969 Topps Bobby Cox, his first and only card as a player. Topps deemed him worthy of the all-star rookie honor after he played OK in ‘68, but 1969 ended up being his last MLB season.

Great night for soccer at Providence Park. The top 2 teams in the NWSL facing off at 7:00, @ThornsFC vs @sandiegowavefc. Thorns will go to the top of the table with a win against only team that has beaten them this season. Wave can pull 5 points clear with a win. #baonpdx

@ByBrianRathbone They should put a plaque where the ball pit was like when they mark where home plate was in a demolished stadium

@tysonalger Portland & Tokyo actually share more in common than you think: -Afuri Ramen chose PDX because PH water level is similar -There is a literal Portland themed bar in Tokyo -Sneaker culture & vintage thrift is big for both And of course food & accommodation is very affordable 🫡

@TXTwinsfan There was no justification for it being an error. Ball was fielded cleanly, throw was caught, he touched the base. An error has to involve a physical misplay and there wasn’t one.

@ScoringChanges On Galarraga's Imperfect Game, could they have retroactively changed the hit to an error and given him a no-hitter?

MLB Scoring Changes
MLB Scoring Changes@ScoringChanges·
Since we have had a lot of new folks to the account here is quick rundown of the appeals process, and how scoring changes get made. Scoring decisions get changed in a couple of ways. The simplest is the Official Scorer (OS) reviews a play after the game ends and changes it. There is a form they fill out, they submit it and it gets sent in and changed. Sometimes @MLB or @EliasSports notice a scoring rule being applied incorrectly. When that happens and the game is over, they will alert the scorer and the team, and the OS will review/change it. These are normally WP/PB, defensive indifference, things like that. The other way is via appeal, which can come from the player, or the team (never an agent ... I can't stress that one enough). This was collectively bargained for. The appeals committee is made up of three former players (again, collectively bargained for) NOTE ... I'd prefer five players, and I'd prefer a scorer on the commitee, but that's just me. Players/teams have a 72 hour window to appeal anything (they generally do it right away but it’s 72 hours to allow for travel and things). Once an appeal is lodged, the committee reviews it (separately but they can talk a bit to each other as well, but generally don’t). They do have access to the OS report on the play, and a person that oversees scoring for MLB is available to help interpret rules and scoring manual directives. In the past, appeals have taken anywhere from 5-14 days to get fully taken care of. In 2024 and 2025, that window closed to about 4-6 days, where I would think that is where MLB would prefer it (for fantasy and stats purposes). It's been a little slower this season (5-11 days). This process is what the MLBPA collectively bargained for, and I do believe it has worked very well. The players have an avenue and the days of a player threatening a scorer are long gone. This process has also allowed for more consistency in scoring from stadium to stadium, so that what is a hit in Tampa is a hit in Seattle. Let me know if you have any questions!
meowwww@ChelseaRAR

@ScoringChanges you might have answered this before, but how do plays get a chance to be changed? are all hits/errors reviewed for each game or does someone from one of the teams have to petition for a change?

@FAmmiranteTFJ There’s no rule about touching the ball for it to be an error. This is a pretty clear hit though IMO, Wood is stretched out on the run trying to catch a ball the CF should have caught easily. But you can only rule on the play being attempted.

Can someone explain to me how this is not an error on James Wood? If it's cuz "he didn't touch the ball," then the rules need to be changed, cuz that's absurd
Lindsay Crosby, big baseball guy@CrosbyBaseball

@FAmmiranteTFJ Sounds like this one - should probably be an error on James Wood, but the scoring rule about effort likely comes up here

@WildcatReport He doesn’t owe NU anything. And if he has a guaranteed starting spot at a bball school sure. But if they lost him over $50-100k it’s bad math. You can’t start 2 small guards but he would have been a great bench option.

The other thing here is that these aren’t all unilateral player decisions that indicate a major problem in the program. In the age of NIL and the portal, it’s a two-way street. The program has a say in who goes and who stays, too.
Louie Vaccher@WildcatReport

I get the angst. There are now 8 Northwestern players entering the portal (and I expect at least one more.) But let’s see who they bring in before we predict the death of the program. This was a deeply flawed team that went 5-15 in the B1G, not the ‘98 Bulls. Why run it back?

Also where did you see this? I see nothing from the Big Ten. This couldn’t be from today. Rule 6.17.2 specifically addresses what happened, and I have zero issue saying @OregonSB, @NUSBcats, and @B1Gsoftball are horrifically wrong if it doesn’t change, because they are very, very wrong. The final is 7-3.

MLB Scoring Changes
MLB Scoring Changes@ScoringChanges·
So it's been nearly two days now, and @OregonSB and @NUSBcats STILL have the wrong score of their game on Saturday. For a refresher, Oregon led 4-2 after six innings, Oregon scored three in the top of the 7th to make it 7-2, and Northwestern scored one (7-3) and had the bases loaded when the game ended due to a pre-arranged drop-dead time. Per NCAA Rule 6.17.2, the final score is 7-3 because the lead didn't change hands. "6.17.2 If the scoring in an incomplete inning has no bearing on which team wins the contest, all individual and team statistics shall be included and the score shall consist of all runs to the point the game was called." That's very clear, and the fact that neither team has changed it, nor @B1Gsoftball is blowing my mind right now.

@ScoringChanges so I guess they're saying 6.17.2 applies to scenarios described in 6.17.1 but not to 6.17.4

@ScoringChanges Due the predetermined drop-dead time, the score reverts to the score at the end of the 6th inning, resulting in a 4-2 win for Oregon. Any statistics from the 7th inning will not be included in the overall stats for this game."
