@flpcharthiatus "You can't just arbitrarily raise prices because of competition. Someone else will undercut you." Landlords: lol

Somehow the "free markets provide stuff efficiently" bros never seem to be interested in examining how landlords just raise rents without needing to cover increasing costs.
Gemma@windupgemma

My last rent increase was because the landlord noticed that the market rate for the area had gone up Not because his costs went up, but because other landlords were charging more in my area and my landlord felt left out and thought I should pay him more for the same thing

@flpcharthiatus There is software designed to automate this, using what would normally be proprietary information to algorithmically collude on rent pricing It's even part of the terms of using the software that you can't undercut fellow landlords, you have to agree to collude on higher rents

@CyclingKent101 I commute on a motorbike (and also cycle regularly) and see assholery on the road almost daily. I just keep a safe distance and deal with situations patiently. It's been a long while since I got in a serious conflict with another road user; it's really not that difficult.

Is there a perfect driver? I don't thing so. I'm certainly not perfect. My problem is with those who have little or no regard for others - the ones who lack empathy for other road users. It's surprisingly easy to be cool to one another when using the road.

"If Burnham will commit to backing proportional representation for the next general Labour election manifesto so that it is in place by the election after next..." Assuming Labour would honour the commitment *and* assuming they'll win the next general election is just unserious
Daisy Eastlake@daisyeastlake

🟢 EXCL: Senior Green Party figures have urged Zack Polanski to consider stepping aside for Andy Burnham in the Makerfield by-election if the Greater Manchester mayor commits to introducing proportional representation Green councillors, activists and former party leaders have signed a joint statement warning that the party should approach the contest with “trepidation” The letter, whose signatories include Jonathan Bartley, who led the party between 2016 and 2018, and Rupert Read, a former Green councillor and author, says that Burnham’s election presents a “unique opportunity” to secure reform “In all reality this is not a seat Greens can win. It will be a straight fight between Labour and Reform. But it’s no ordinary by-election. Labour’s candidate, Andy Burnham, is looking to return to Westminster to lead in parliament.” “If Burnham will commit to backing proportional representation for the next general Labour election manifesto so that it is in place by the election after next, then on this unique occasion we don’t think Greens should run a full campaign against him,” the letter says Full read in @thetimes 👇 thetimes.com/article/16d6ba…

@BareLeft Why would you even want to enable another chance for Labour? Let them be stuck with Starmer and let him burn down the party.

@daisyeastlake The Green's should oppose Burnham if for no other reason than to sink Labour faster. They don't deserve a second chance anymore. Especially not with someone like Burnham.

@dylgriggs @ValforNevada Which is a ridiculous argument even from a financial standpoint because of how expensive it is to move and how difficult it is to claw back your deposit.

@Ian_Fisch @hawkofkrypton @CantEverDie Him instantly begging for his life is like 1000% in-character and it's baffling anyone would not understand that given how thick they're laying it on from start to finish of the show.

still so funny to me so many far right people heavily personally identified with homelander, a character who was only ever calm when he was able to drink breastmilk of women in his life and act like a literal baby with them

@DeuceTheUchiha Fr. I enjoy watching it, but the pacing is all over the place and the vast majority of the show is just entertaining and not much more.

@IRapeIDFTroops @Kristo67501283 @nikicaga The obsession with overanalyzing review scores is also something we should get over as a society. It just displaces all the actually interesting things there are to say with debating some numbers that don't even mean much.

@RyanMcGinty02 @SSmit1986 @RMike1820 @CPBritain Well do you think that Labour can't be saved by any leader, or do you agree with the polls that Burnham would win back votes to election victory? The idea that the role of a communist press should be to just report the bourgeois news without its own perspective... baffling
