21 - 22 May, 2025, the @ConCourtSA hearing for the Presidents referral on the Copyright Amendment Bill (CAB) & Performers Protection Amendment Bill (PPAB) took place. ReCreate signed on as Amicus in defense of Bills Constitutionality, along with 20 other civil society organisations signed on as Parties to our case, including @SadtuNational @NAPTOSA_TEACH @SAGActors @LIASANews @DSFSI_Research @Wikimedia_ZA @r2kcampaign @sanda_info & more! Showing a broad based movement in Support for these reforms, from stakeholders in Education, Performers, Persons with Disabilities, Research, Content Producers and Rights Activists 🇿🇦

Today, SECTION27 is at the Constitutional Court, presenting arguments in favour of the Copyright Amendment Bill (CAB) and the Performers' Protection Amendment Bill (PPAB). @BlindSA_NGO, represented by SECTION27, and other organisations, has been invited to participate as an "interested party" and has made written submissions and will be making oral submissions during the hearing.

This morning, SECTION27, Blind SA, Recreate SA, South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU), the South African Guild of Actors (SAGA), the Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA), Right 2 Know, Wikimedia South Africa and other civil society organisations are staging a picket outside of the Constitutional Court in support of the Copyright Amendment Bill (CAB) and the Performers’ Protection Amendment Bill (PPAB).
