@flamingbofa2 @AeresChronicles Its a very important part, for sure! Just too often the intent of that is not to encourage "exploration". I forfeit that some players love rail-road campaigns and that's cool that they can do that with D&D. I just feel like that's not playing into D&D's strengths.

My wife loved BG3, as everyone should…but she asked what would the first two be like if she tried them and I told her “well luckily for you, they did make ports to modern systems and they were remastered”. Hopefully she likes them but I am going to guess she won’t.

@SacredLightGame Both great games! Super Mario 3 still holds up today but I’m not so sure about FF1 (at least in its original form). It’s missing a lot of quality of life features we take for granted nowadays.

I really like your use of the word "Focus" here. Because we should still try to make our games more accessible at least to some degree in order to share our passion more broadly and more effectively. But we need to take care to share the true passion, not some watered down facade.

Water battle background preview. This one took longer than expected. It was hard to land on a backdrop that doesn’t distract from the units but still feels alive. Also, wanted it to "seem" right, instead of just fighting ontop of water >< I went through a few ideas before settling on this. The animated ripples ended up doing exactly what I needed. Subtle movement adds enough atmosphere to sell the setting without overwhelming it. Feels like the right direction.

Visibility radius is now fully implemented! Units and allied cities project a defined vision range. Any enemies outside it are hidden. Mountains extend sight. Forest reduces it. Time of day further modifies visibility (as well as some traits and items). These overlays are not shown by default. Hold TAB to temporarily display vision and aura ranges, keeping the screen clear during normal play. Aura indicators are also shown (yellow and purple in this video). Both beneficial and detrimental auras are working, with clear visual feedback. #indiedev #ogrebattle #pixelart

I think of it like the livability of a house during construction. Early on, you’re framing, plumbing, wiring etc..., but no one could live there. It's not till near the end of a home build that someone can actually live in it. Game dev is similar: early stages are foundational systems and infrastructure. The “fun” and cohesion usually show up much later.

@DemonsRevival I love normal maps! I was intimidated by them at first, but quickly found out theyre super easy to apply and automate for spritesheets. Few other things can add this much polish with such low effort :)
