@MissEborall @doctor_oxford That’s not to say the brain stem does not play a role in regulating heart rate and blood pressure - it most certainly does, but the heart beat itself is not dependent on the brain stem being intact.

@MissEborall @doctor_oxford Happy to explain this, also a doctor. Your heart has its own inherent beating mechanism - specialised cells which are like a natural pacemaker which generates an impulse which makes the heart beat. Its beating is not dependent on brainstem function.
