In most countries, paying for medicines accounts for more than half of out-of-pocket health spending. This means many people miss out on treatment because they can’t afford it. And you don’t have to take it from us. Here are a couple of testimonials from our new ACT for UHC report, launching on #UHCDay tomorrow: According to a young woman from the Eastern Mediterranean region, “I was unable to access the treatment and health services I needed primarily due to financial constraints.” And a father from the Africa region resorts to purchasing roadside medications when his children fall ill at the “wrong” time of the month, and mentioned having to delay care for his son who was diagnosed with a hernia until his pay check came in: “I could not borrow money, and the doctor wouldn’t do it on credit.
