There was a time when most white men in this country would agree that a certain amount of verbal disrespect towards another man warranted violence. I personally still think it shouldn’t be legal to respond to words with violence in most cases and probably even including this one. But if you invite a man to “chimp out” and he does and then you shoot him you should do hard time. Fuck this guy.

@jearosky @billybrizzle420 When we use words like “protected speech” it’s in the context of whether you can be prosecuted specifically for using that speech. There’s no speech, “protected or not” that can justify another citizen battering you. The question here is about escalation and fear of life.

The Chud the Builder case is going to be interesting
Both parties who think it’s a slam dunk on either side of the spectrum are wrong
On the one hand he does have freedom of speech & a word isn’t legal basis for an assault
On the other there’s a massive case for him instigating conflict with the intent to cause physical harm
This is going to come down to who he gets as a judge
